PRESS CONFERENCE
Pairs, Short Program

Deanna Stellato Dudek/Maxime Deschamps (CAN) 1st after the Short Program

Stellato Dudek: We’re really pleased with our performance. We worked really hard with the support of our family. There was a lot of pressure from home ice and self imposed. A lot of family and friends came out to support. I wanted to do well as my friends who didn’t watch figure skating came out today. For tomorrow we have to remember to do our job and stay calm and think what we need to do one thing at a time. (on her passion for skating) I had stopped skating in my teens. When I came back, my only goal is to not leave prematurely and give it everything I got so I have no regrets when I’m 80 and sipping on my glass of wine. I
hope when people see me they believe anything is possible when you have passion for something. (on the citizenship progress) I received my PR card last year and I should be within the time frame to receive my citizenship for the 2026 Olympic Games. (on her age, 40) I don’t think about it and this is what I want to do and this is what I need to do to feel ready. There are no points for being older it really doesn’t matter. (On getting prepared) I work with a physiotherapist if I have a nagging or bothersome pain. It takes two to three hours when I do my own physio every night. My diet, nutrition and water intake never wavers or else I’ll feel
it the next day. The work I do at night is the most important to prepare my muscles. I owe it to myself and my partner to be ready to train the same capacity.

Deschamps: During the program the crowd was really loud. We were telling ourselves to stay calm or else it’s easy to lose focus. (on his partner) I am amazed by what Deanna is doing. We are training a lot of hours on and off ice on top of everything else she has to do. It’s incredible.

Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara (JPN) 2nd after the Short Program

Kihara: We did everything we could do to prepare for today’s competition and we are happy about today’s result. We would like to perform our best in the free program as well.

Miura: Ryuichi worked very hard to get himself back on the ice after his injury.

Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii (ITA) 3rd after the Short Program

Conti: We are so happy to be here. The tension was so high, there was a standing ovation for the Canadian team. We did our best in the Short Program in the season and we hope to do the best tomorrow.

Macii: (on coming back after some struggles earlier this season) We knew we had some problems but we didn’t take the time to fix them. After a very bad Europeans we sat down and said let’s start again tried more with mental coach worked on the ice with him repletion started again from zero bulding our cinfodne what we can do good sart it’s a blate start but we hope that fix the promel that we had hope to startto prepare the next seson strong and focused.

NOTE: This is copied directly from the ISU. I left the typos because I couldn't quite figure out what the words were supposed to be.

I promised y'all last night that I would dig up Babs's quote from after the RD, so here it is:

I didn't see Chock and Bates skate. I saw them in practice. I have something to say. If they skated well, they deserve it. Fine, I'm happy for them. In practice, they were not that fast. But, if they did well today, fine. My team did really well. I'm happy for them. Nothing that I could say.I didn't see the Canadians so I couldn't say. I saw the practice of course and I like them, actually. I was expecting more for them because they are at home. Honestly, I was expecting a little bit more for Gilles Poirier. It's okay. Fine, I'm happy to be there [in second] of course with my team.

I have no idea how ChoBat were looking in practices but they skated their RD in competition the best they have all season and just attacked the program the entire way through. I'm not sure they deserved 1st by as wide a margin as they received from the judges but they definitely deserved 1st place.

You could only do that basically on the day of the gala. On Saturday it was pretty much sold out in the lower bowl.

I only know that because I bought my gala ticket at the day of, and the girl at the ticket office had mentioned that. lol

CBC Sports’ “That Figure Skating Show” Worlds recap & season finale with Asher Hill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuD2LgfkDp8
Deanna Stellato-Dudek & Maxime Deschamps are pairs world champions and hit one more milestone in Montreal en route to their ultimate goal of representing Canada at 2026 Olympics in Italy. Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier upgraded their 2023 world bronze to a silver medal and USA's Ilia Malinin nailed six quads in his world-record free program.
All this and more in the season finale episode of 'That Figure Skating Show.'
