A great pairs champion back in the day and longtime coach but how many know he was one of those rare skaters who won US championships in 2 different disciplines (pairs with Melissa Militano and before that dance with Mary Campbell).

I am so sad for Ilia, and for us fans who he's thrilled over the past 2-3 years.
I do have to say it was either coaching or athlete malpractice to go for the quad axel when skating from ahead for Olympic gold (if he was way behind, it would have been worth the risk). He did not need it, but...

The USFS sent Michelle to Norway during the Olympics, but she was not in Lillehammer or with the team, she was training elsewhere, "just in case". omg this was over 30 years ago. :eek:
One little tidbit about them that sheds light on their resilience with the back and forthing - they said in one of these little interview snippets I saw that they are both capable of sleeping anytime/anywhere. I think Emilea said something like if she has at least 30 minutes, she can go to sleep...
I'm not surprised at Jason getting the 4CC and Worlds assignments. Despite Johnny apparently implying he's "fallen out of favor" (I didn't hear it but was stated in the pbp thread), I don't believe that for a second - and these assignments suggest otherwise too. I can certainly understand that...
Given what we've heard about Z/K's training habits this year (multiple consecutive run-throughs every day, etc), I'd hazard a guess that 4CCs (if they indeed end up staying in) might be about the experience as training - they didn't just make their huge improvement this year by magic. Not to...
