The 2nd International Maria Olszewska Memorial is included in the official calendar of the International Skating Union (ISU), which provides competitors with qualifying points for the European and World Figure Skating Championships. This fact significantly increases the prestige and rank of the competition.

Maria Olszewska was an icon of Polish figure skating. The skater from Łódź became a three-time champion at the Łódź Junior Championships, but her career as a coach is best known. Her students took part in the Olympic Games: in Lillehammer, Nagano, Salt Lake City and Turin. She has been awarded many times, including: Medal of the National Education Commission or the Golden Cross of Merit for her contribution to the Polish Olympic movement. The memorial itself has been organized for many years, but only last year it became an international event.

– For the second time in history, the Solo Dance competition appears in the competition program – says Jolanta Baryła, president of the Municipal Skating Club in Łódź. – This is a competition aimed at individual competitors who love dancing, and not necessarily technical elements. Last year, we were the first in the world to introduce it at international competitions. The competition itself is gaining popularity, as evidenced by the list of event participants. A total of competitors from 23 countries will appear at the event, including Mexico, Thailand, Argentina, Korea and the United States, she adds.
