Finally back in the States and able to watch on Peacock, though not live.

Major congrats to Amber for the win!! That short program was incredible and memorable. What I like about her free was her expression from the start and all the way through. She’s a great combination of power, but also softness and grace. The free program didn’t really go anywhere at the end, which I think could be improved. She’s so likable and carries herself so well in the interview. I think back years ago when I thought she was a super talent in juniors, only to disappear for years. I so admire her now at age 25 still improving every year and finally reaching the potential she showed in her teens.

I don’t get all the praise about how expressive Wakaba is from Mark and others. She always skates stone faced through the majority of the program only to really show expression in the footwork after the jumping is done. A super stark contrast. There is little, if any choreography during the jumping. Then suddenly she comes alive at the end. She’s always been that way to me. At least that’s more expression than Chayeon and Sarah. All that said it’s great to see her get her mojo back.

Chayeon Kim looks so much better packaged this year. Very tiffed! I approve 😉 She’s always been a very robotic skater to me. Usually very consistent so the fall shocked me. She is so tiny and lacks power compared to the others at the top. Her free skate score was much lower than I expected.

Sarah Everhardt…just wow for a senior Grand Prix debut. Rock solid consistency. Maybe too rock solid….no expression. Bodes well for the future if she can steadily work on that second mark. I see a lot of improvement on that from last year. Also thought she was underscored. I expected in the 130’s. Judges want expression and their marks made that clear for Sarah and Chayeon. Though I thought Sarah had some pretty complicated choreography…props for that. But very exiting to have Sarah in the mix. She’s got a great shot at making the world team at this rate.

omg what was that late night infomercial ad for like soothing music that had this in it???
It’s an obscure group called Adiemus. Couldn’t believe my ears! I have the CD (yes, it’s that old) of many of these cuts. Nonsense syllables in stead of words. Works well with video and slide presentations.

The group isn't called Adiemus. Adiemus is the name of the song, written by Karl Jenkins I think. It's in jibberish.

We are singing it with my choir for our Christmas concert and I absolutely love it. Less so for skating.

I had the CD as well  The group, the CD, and a song on the CD were all called Adiemus. The "artist" field shows up as Adiemus on streaming platforms. My recollection is that Adiemus was an ensemble of Karl Jenkins and other artists. I think Adiemus, not Karl Jenkins, would be the correct artist credit for Sumiyoshi's program.

iirc, she had to argue to the ISU that the singing didn't count as (still banned) music with lyrics, because they weren't real language.

Fact from Wikipedia: Adiemus" is a song written by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins and performed by Miriam Stockley with Mary Carewe. It was recorded by the Adiemus project and officially released on the 1995 Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary album. I didn't know there was an adiemus project too.
