The Announcement is here -While I will miss team Korea, they really need to get their rest and recovery in. And Gubanova can have a happier end to her season!
Wait, if the invitation is based on World Standings, does this mean that even though Alysa is the World Champion, she won't be invited to go? How will they pick the US women when they are all on such equal footing?
Daniel Grassl said in an interview yesterday he's going to WTTThe Announcement is here -
It doesn't explicitly state that the entries must be according to World Standings - what it says is if the fed doesn't select their highest ranked skaters then the entire fed can be disinvited & the next fed on the list will be invited. In practice, that isn't how it's worked in the past - we were discussing it in the US Women's thread & someone pointed out that the USFS sent Gracie Gold when she was our Jr Champ but not one of the 2 highest ranked US women.
I'd be shocked if Alysa & Amber don't wind up being the US selections for the Women. With them going 1-2 at Nationals, Alysa winning Worlds & Amber winning the GPF, it would be hard to complain about them getting the nod over Isabeau, despite her being the highest ranked of the three. Heck, even Bradie & Elyce are higher ranked than Alysa, lol.
Projected Women's Entries -
USA - Liu, Glenn
Japan - Sakamoto, Chiba
Italy - Gutmann, Pezzetta
France - Schild, Serna
Canada - Schizas, Dupuis (Ruiter is higher - 54 v 78, but Dupuis is their reigning silver medalist & was the highest Canadian woman at 4CCs)
Georgia - Gubanova, no #2 woman
Projected Men's Entries -
USA - Malinin, Brown (please, make an argument for Pulkinen WS 20 over Brown WS 24, lol)
Japan - Kagiyama, Sato
Italy - Memola, Rizzo (WS 9 v Grassl WS 14)
France - Siao Him Fa, Aymoz
Canada - Sadovsky, Chiu or Rakic (WS 41 v WS 46 - I'd send Chiu, if he's healthy, so he can try to move up the SB list)
Georgia - Egadze, no #2 man
Projected Pairs Entries -
USA - Efimova/Mitrofanov (Chan/Howe WS 12 & Plazas/Fernandez WS 16 are higher, but PlaFern are just coming back from his surgery & ChanHowe could have earned it by skating better at Nats)
Japan - Miura/Kihara
Italy - Conti/Macii
France - Kovalev/Kovalev
Canada - Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps
Georgia - Metelkina/Berulava
Projected Ice Dance Entries -
USA - Chock/Bates
Japan - Yoshida/Morita
Italy - Guignard/Fabbri
France - Lopareva/Brissaud
Canada - Gilles/Poirier
Georgia - Davis/Smolkin
Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing both ChoBat and GilPoir decline. They probably won't, since they're both booked on the SOI Japan spring tour, but your rationale is solid. It would be a fun experience for both CarPon and LajLag.I'd love to see Chock/Bates decline. Car/Pon would benefit far more from the experience and the cash. Madi and Evan would get time for a nice vacation and an early start on much better programs for the Olympic season.
And there would be yet another example of the feds not really having to follow the WS rankings explicitly, lol.Daniel Grassl said in an interview yesterday he's going to WTT
Interesting... Going by the 24-25 World Rankings - here's who would be the top ranked entries from each country:For what it's worth, Grassl is the highest Man from ITA in the World Rankings: he's 7th vs. 10th for Rizzo and 11th for Memola.

Since that's this year only, it's a good argument to use those as well.
But considering that this is a cheezefest team event with SB and $$$ benefits and made for the Japanese audience, bypassing the WS or WR for skaters who are popular in Japan and/or had great results in the last week at Worlds is a smart move.
I really want to see E/M hit their programs in the same competition. Maybe it will happen at WTT. They were my favorite programs this year by the U.S. pair teams by far. That might explain the "in" that Kam/O'Shea are now out of, due to his injury. I could never underestimate the knots USFS will tie themselves into to get the result they want, although this is something they couldn't control.
I would never wish for an injury, but given one, huge fun and $$$ for Efimova/Mitrofanov.
Where can I find that information? That might explain the "in" that Kam/O'Shea are now out of
This is what Jackie Wong posted on Bluesky (and I shared in the Sekret thread)Where can I find that information?
Very difficult as a hard-working athlete to decline good $$$, as well as a trip to Japan. As you know most if not all skaters very much enjoy performing in Japan.Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing both ChoBat and GilPoir decline. They probably won't, since they're both booked on the SOI Japan spring tour, but your rationale is solid. It would be a fun experience for both CarPon and LajLag.
The members of all the teams are now shown on the event website
