Say, this question just came to me. What I was wondering about is...Do both Ice-Dance Partners have to be the same size or height in order to do a Kilian-Hold? Or does it not matter? Thanks.

@FSWer it doesn't matter. Look at any ice dance competition you can find online. Partners are different sizes and different heights, and they all do the Kilian hold.

It can be difficult to do any hold if one partner is a lot taller than the other partner, but it can still be done. The shorter partner might have to be careful to stand up straight all the time, and maybe hold their arms a little higher than usual.

Sometimes at test sessions you might see a very tall male coach partnering a short little girl in a beginning dance that uses Kilian hold. The coach will need to bend over to get his hands in the right position -- he won't have good posture when partnering a student nearly 2 feet shorter than himself. But it will be recognizable as a Kilian hold. And in that kind of testing situation, the important thing is whether the student taking the test is doing the correct edges on the correct counts of music.
