Has anyone ever made a chocolate doukissa cake? I had it recently at a Greek restaurant in town and it was the most amazing dessert I have ever had. It is like a fudge or brownie batter that has bits of crunchy biscuits/wafers in it and nuts. My mother-in-law and husband enjoyed it so much as well and they both have birthdays next week. I want to make it for them but I am having a hard time with the recipe.
Some recipes include eggs and that makes me uncomfortable because this is a no-bake cake and I would rather not use eggs. Other recipes do not use eggs but they still vary, some using melted chocolate, others using cocoa and even some using hot chocolate mix.
If anyone has a tried and true recipe for this that they know is good, please share!! I found a great looking recipe at one site but the site is full of pop-ups and the video wont even play anymore unless you download tons of installations and I don't trust any of it.
Oh, and apparently this cake is very similar (maybe even the same) as a chocolate biscuit cake which was apparently the Groom's cake a the Royal Wedding a few years back. So some of you Brits may be familiar in that regard. I know it uses biscuits (most recipes say Marie's) so I hope I can find those in the States!
This is a picture from the restaurant where we ate the cake, others look the same, some with more or less biscuits and some molded in different shapes but all similar:
