Thanks for sharing the pictures, Sylvia. I remember seeing Tommy Steenburg practicing at the Fairfax Ice Arena, & sitting near his mom at nationals (in Atlanta, I think). Now he's a middle-aged man and a successful coach/choreographer! It's amazing how quickly people grow up in the skating world.
Tommy and his family were the kindest, most respectful people in the rink every single day. I don't know how common it is for the most successful skater at a rink to also be one of the most popular, but he was, because he didn't have one single diva bone in his body.

Elano had jump troubles too, I was a little surprised that he won this.

Blackwell impressed me with his willingness to go for stuff, I did not know about his injuries. And he is not just a jumper, he has a presence on the ice.

Loved Fegan, he will get stronger as he gets older. Got a lot of +GOE that really added up.

Haugeto's jumps bother me. I wish he would not do all of them with arms over the head. He gets no flow at all out of the jumps which will make me not like them and negatively affect his GOE.

Hi, Flyingsit! Are you still skating? It's kind of weird, but I didn't get to know any of the young skaters back in the days when I skated at Fairfax Ice Arena. Maybe it was the set up of the rink, but I just went in, put on my skates near the rink and left after my sessions/lessons. I wonder what happened to some of the competitive kids from back them, such as Elizabeth Kwon, who held all the records for spins at the rink. She was pretty amazing and was even doing triple-triples.

Nope, I stopped about 12-13 years ago. Lisa Kwon had injury issues which caused her to give up skating. It was such a good, supportive environment for skaters; it was interesting to see what happened when other high-level skaters came in periodically. Emily Hughes was there occasionally to work with Nick Perna and she interacted with everyone pretty easily. When Cohen came for a tryout with Audrey it didn't go well as she was... well, the opposite of what I wrote about Tommy.
