That is likely part of it. The ISU just held one of the ISU Short Track World Tour stops in the same arena over the weekend. So, probably working out the venue turnaround timing and ice itself. The Beijing test event was similarly small and not particularly noteworthy. The last time we had a decent, major competition acting as the Olympic test event was 2017 4CCs.

Beijing was during Covid times, so I don’t think that’s a good comparison. In this case it seems like a test event was required (as usual) but the Italian Fed or whoever is in charge couldn’t be a*sed to host or even bid for a more serious or larger competition.

It’s also a test event for volunteers - same as the short track. Also logistics and equipment

Isabeau looked a little sluggish but it may have been the angle. Her landings looked solid though, which was great. A little wobbly on the final spin but really, pretty good for coming off an injury.

Well, this goes better in the Italian news thread, but Anna isn't entered in any events this week - just Jr Worlds next week. At this point, I think the Italian fed is going to pick whomever they want for Worlds because the scores are so close between Pezzetta & Gutmann.
