"Brainwashed: Sex-Camera-Power" is a really important documentary that looks at how movies have been sexualizing women for years. It doesn't just show examples from films, but also talks to actresses and experts to really understand why this happens and how it affects women in real life. The movie makes you think about what you're watching and how we can all help change things for the better. Definitely worth a watch!

Matthew Vaughn says Halle Berry was tricked into X-Men: The Last Stand with fake Storm script

https://ew.com/movies/matthew-vaugh...2jBFKWXoWAiFK2SqWvYdejBX_OXT7Bn1CcdtFIgP83MwQ

The studio prepared a fake script with additional scenes featuring her character (Storm) including an opening scene where Storm creates a thunderstorm in Africa that results in food production that helps feed starving children. Potential director Vaughn quit the movie after he learned they were lying to the Oscar winner in order to get her to sign on to star in their movie.

I believe it. I know a lot of people who weren't fans of her portrayal of Storm, but they cut a lot of her scenes in the first film (she she played the character with an accent to show her origin). I remember they changed the character a bit for the second film to make Storm more stylistically closer to what Halle probably liked, but substantively, they didn't really write for her or give her much to do story-wise. I think she was pretty displeased with how it went down, so I can see the producers enticing her to sign on again with a script they never intended to use.

Sounds like I should have used my day off to go see "Killers of the Flower Moon" instead of watching the completely cringe inducing Jennifer Lawrence sex comedy "No Hard Feelings" which is already on Netflix.

I will admit the 3 hour 32 minute running time of "Flowers..." gave me pause, as I loathed Scorsese's similarly long "The Irishman," plus the relatively short but powerful book had great impact, but didn't seem like it would lend itself well to a movie adaptation.

Same here. Everyone kept saying the sex comedy was funny but I am failing to see how.

I am waiting for it to be on Apple, I no longer go to movies over 120 minutes. If it is over that I make it a two night event at home.

The book was excellent and could have been a great 3-4 part limited series. That is one thing I love about streaming, limited series.

I actually paid to see that stupid movie in the theater. Because of Jennifer Lawrence generally picking good material. Uh, no.

I saw Eras to experience the cultural moment. Not a Swiftie, know just a few of her songs, but was very impressed with her versatility and writing ability. And business savvy - re-recording her music to get the rights back, and negotiated directly with theatres to cut out distributor middlemen. Also spoke with the involved unions of the musicians, dancers, etc on her tour to ensure they got fair deals. She is grabbing control as an individual artist. I admire that. The movie itself was gorgeously filmed. It is a marathon and maybe because I was getting tired at that point, but could have had fewer song from the Midnights era.

Final trailer for Dune 2 is out. I'm still bummed that this movie is coming out next March. Nov. 3 was its original release date. :(

I just watched Nyad. Well, it was watchable but it is weird that the most interesting and emotionally resonant parts did not involve the titular character. Rhys Ifans and Jodie Foster were quite good.

The lead character was wholly unrootable for me, I just didn’t care about what she was trying to accomplish. As a runner, I can understand the appeal of endurance but I didn’t understand what motivated her beyond it is really really really hard and no one has ever done it before. When she cheered that someone else tried it but failed, that left a sour taste in my mouth. The people who make up her team were way more interesting.

Just watched Nyad tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it.

With Annette Bening (the woman who tamed Warren Beatty) and Jodie Foster, how could it go wrong? IMHO.

Watched As They Made Us, a small family drama directed by Mayim Bialuk. About a dysfunctional Jewish family, the dutiful daughter (a truly wonderful performance by Dianna Agron of Glee) who takes care of her ailing parents while raising her own children and still reeling from a divorce. Issues of grief, mental illness, substance abuse, aging, forgiveness and forgiveness come into play. Just wonderful.

I watched Priscilla yesterday. Overall, it was a really uncomfortable movie. It’s not abuse porn like other Oscar bait movies, but they don’t waste any time establishing the problematic nature of how the relationship began and you never forget how young Priscilla was.

Apparently Lisa Marie must have seen an early cut of the film, or a copy of the script or something before she died, because she was very upset and didn't want Priscilla released due to how her father was portrayed. It must have been horrifying for her to see the man she idolized (and lost when she was very young) portrayed as, in essence, a sexual predator. Viewed through a present-day lens, however, that's exactly what he was. Priscilla's parents basically sold their underage daughter to a man who was a decade older than she was. There's really no way to sugar coat that.

I wonder if this was part of Lisa Marie’s estrangement with her mom, since the movie was based on her mom’s book and Sofia Coppola made Priscilla a producer of the movie.

Oops. Hope Marvels doesn’t tank. Not that I care about comic book movies, but I think people will learn the wrongs lessons.

Yeah. The very first scene was Priscilla sitting in a diner, drinking a milkshake, and being approached by a man who invites her to a party at Elvis’ house (which really did happen). It’s very difficult not to see the red flag.

The tickets sales will definitely be effected by the actor’s strike but I already have my tickets and even took the day off so I wouldn’t be too tired! LOL Bring on the flerkens!!! :cheer2:

Yeah, I thought Priscilla was quite good and was pretty unflinching about Elvis being a groomer. I thought both a Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi gave convincing performances.
