even i cannot figure out how to get CBC gem on my smart tv...and i've been using a computer and internet since the late 90s as a uni student
it might be because my smart tv is 7 years old, though...

My smart tv is even older. The gem app comes with google chrome. Are you using some other thing - Firestick? Don't know what it's called that thing you plug into the back of your TV and it has all the apps on it. Anyway my google chrome thingy plugged into the back of the tv came with netflix, prime, youtube, gem, apple+, etc etceven i cannot figure out how to get CBC gem on my smart tv...and i've been using a computer and internet since the late 90s as a uni student

For some reason the web app on my tv doesn't like searching the web so cannot figure out how to access cbcgem that way. I don't have any plug in things like fire stick (no idea what it is).
I looked on samsung website and my smart tv isn't smart enough for cbc gem app--you can download the cbcgem app for 2020 and newer TVs.
I access other streaming services via Telus or the smart tv apps (disney+, netflix were around when i got my tv). I can connect my laptop via HDMI cable to use my tv as a screen...but then i cant use my computer at the same time. 2025 / first world problems!
All of the above to say that if it is that convoluted for a 40-something to navigate watching this on tv, a large portion of the 70+ demographic can probably forget it.

I have a firestick plugged into one HDMI port on my old non-smart tv. It did not come with the GEM app pre-loaded, nor with an internet browser pre-loaded. However, since it is an Amazon product, I was able to go to the apps button and download Amazon's Silk Browser for free. This browser allows me to go to any website I can access on my laptop so I can go to the GEM website, CBC Sports website, Daily Motion, YouTube etc.
I also had my TV switched from RF cable to wi-fi streaming by Rogers last summer. For those who may not know how it works, a small wi-fi receiver plugs into another HDMI port on my non-smart TV. Aside from streaming my oldstyle TV package, it has some integrated apps preloaded, like BritBox, Netflix, etc and menus that allow you to select and install a large number of other apps. It does come pre-loaded with YouTube app but does not have a browser app available, even as a paid app. That means I can watch ISU's YouTube channel but can't enter internet addresses to access the rest of the internet.

The bolded interests me a lot! I access my regular cable package through my laptop since I can't have the cable attached to the TV, so this may make things a lot easier for me re things like dailymotion. Plus I really should look on the TV and see if i can DL the dailymotion app - it might be that simple.

this is also interesting to me and while it is too late for this year's Canadians, next time I am visiting the parents I will look into what Alilou identified in Skate Talker's post.

My SMART TV is older too but there was a link to go straight to the Google Play shop and CBC Gem app was there to download for free.

One thing to watch out for Gem on a streaming stick is that tends to log you out frequently. Or maybe the app just hates me.

These links only work live FYI, I have to chrome cast from my phone to my samsung smart big tv to watch it. Samsung and the cbc app don't see to play nice together. For repeats Daily Motion is working

I've tried everything to get the search function of the Daily motion app on my tv to work, but it just doesn't so I can't find Skate canada
so if I can't watch live it's on the laptop for me. It's ok; for euros and worlds it's back to youtube if I can't watch live.

Just curious - did you try entering the URL in the search box? For Daily Motion replays it'sI've tried everything to get the search function of the Daily motion app on my tv to work, but it just doesn't so I can't find Skate canada

Let us know if that works. I don't have Daily Motion app, I'm accessing it via an internet browser so I really have no idea how it works - just a stab in the dark.

It's not Skate Canada who is letting folks down.
Skate Canada could only provide folks with TV broadcast coverage if there was a TV network willing to agree to do so (& like to pay for the rights). Since none of them seem to think the ratings are worthwhile/that they can sell ads to cover the cost of the broadcast time, there have been no takers.

CBC was the host broadcaster for Worlds last year so pretty much had to tape it all anyway.
This year's Worlds is on CBC Sports streaming schedule but so far not on their TV schedule, though they seldom had skating on their TV schedule until the last moment, even last year when they were the host broadcaster.

Mr. Japanfan and I always enjoy watching FS together on TV. But we don't usually watch live and there appears to be no archived stream to watch on TV.
I've long said that CBC might destroy my love of FS, and think this may be the time. I may catch a few skates online, but am just not committed to the live stream.

I couldn't get the daily motion search function to work at all, not for skate Canada or anything else, and I think it might be because my tv needs a software update which i'll do this week sometime. Meanwhile I've reverted to using the HDMI cable to watch daily motion on the tv - works fine.
For the longest time the search function wouldn’t work for me either on the Dailymotion app on the chromecast. But just recently it started to (I am assuming there was an update). And it is also now remembering channels I have watched in the past, so I don’t even have to really search now. So it’s functionality is much better than it was previously.

Will there be live showing of the Worlds here in Canada? Now that I have cancelled my trip I still need to watch it live? Any details yet on the world ISU feed or CBC gem or anything? I see the two sessions above on CBC sports but that’s not live?

I'm pretty sure it will all be available live on both Gem and Youtube, as it has been in the past. I think the only comps that are not available on either are Canadians and Skate Canada, which are available on Daily Motion - or s'thing like that.
