I watched Good Sam and thought it was a little too formulaic and I didn't really like any of the characters, but I may give it another shot. But I don't think I'll keep up with that one.

I felt the same as you, but I did like most of the characters (for the most part). It's a well-made hospital drama and the cast is very talented cast. But the script ran hot and cold for me. On the plus side, the final line of the episode, “That’ll be all, doctor” was CLASSIC. On the negative side, when Sam says to her friend Lex, “I thought my best friend would have my back”, I couldn’t help but think of snotty high school girls talking to one another like this. Plus I didn’t understand how Sam and her Mom Vivian could put up with so much disrespectful treatment from their father/ex-husband. The line where Griff suggests to his ex-wife (and the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer) to feel how firm his behind is…come on people, it’s 2022 for crap’s sake. Sophia Bush was great as the lead character. Just the right mixture of sweetness and toughness. Glad she’s no longer part of the toxic Chicago P.D. work environment. Overall, I am taking a pass on Good Sam. If there was less competition from so many other good shows on TV, I might give this one a chance over a few more episodes. But there’s too many other quality shows to pick from at this time.

I found the first episode of Women Of The Movement to be very strong. It’s a six part series about Mamie Till-Mobley, who devoted her life to seeking justice for the murder of her son Emmett Till. This is a story that would be difficult to direct. Not just because of the subject matter, but to be able to direct it in a tone that is not too heavy for the viewer. And Gina Prince-Bythewood is completely up to the task. This first episode aired last Thursday night and I avoided watching it because of fear I would find it overwhelming. Instead, it is impactful rather than overwhelming. And the cast all do a great job with such an important story. Must-see TV.

sort of t.v., but it doesn't fit anywhere else. There was a show on the Cooking channel last night at 10. Back in Time for Dinner. It was about the 70s. I missed the episodes from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. They were all old shows, 2018, being on the Cooking channel. I'm recording all the upcoming ones and I don't see reruns of the reruns. Anyway, they redo this family's home and they have to dress and eat and have decor and activities of the decade for a week. No modern conveniences. And they live in Canada. They watched the original 1972 Canada/Russia hockey game. But it was so neat. I remember stuff. But it was weird that her current high school children had never had Sloppy Joes. They loved it. She had to make it from scratch. Do they not have Manwich in Canada? And she didn't know how to make a cheese ball or what to do with it. I made them well into the 2000s. You can buy them in Kroger today. She was a nurse, and not young, the oldest kid being 18. Are those not things Canadians know? They went from 1970 to 1972 to 1979 (she got a dishwasher in 1979 and had to hook it up to the sink and knew how to do that). And they all wore flowered clothes and bell bottoms and stuff. My parents did not wear that stuff in the 70s. And they all went to the roller disco together in 1979. I know, just to show what people did. The females did macrame for a hobby in 1972. My mom and I made hooked rugs back then. I would have loved to see the earlier decades. I wish they would start over and do an Ohio one or something. Any thread drifting Canadian or nostalgic thoughts?

I have mixed feelings about Children Ruin Everything. It's well-made and the cast (including the kids) are very talented. But the writing has just a bit too much of the "aren't we all clever people" kind of writing for the characters. I warmed somewhat to the show after we saw multiple times where the Mom about to go back to work keeps noticing babies and accepting that she has a strong desire to have more children (or at least one). So that part softened me up. I don't think I will continue watching it in spite of this slight change in my opinion as the show progressed. I just checked wikipedia to confirm which network airs this show and am shocked to see that it's a Canadian show (it airs on CTV). I would have sworn this was an American comedy. Wikipedia says the show is airing in the U.S. on Roku.

This show aired on CBC TV in Canada in 2018. There were 6 episodes and I enjoyed them all. I am Canadian and I was pretty much also "huh?" when they didn't know about cheese balls or sloppy Joes. Although I have never eaten a sloppy Joe, (just a homemade version using vegetable soup, not tomato sauce), I still know what they were and yes Manwich & cheese logs/balls are sold in stores here but the big balls are not as popular any more, I would say.

There was a second season that aired on CBC in 2020 called Back in Time for Winter. Same host, Carlo Rota, same concept, but set in Winter months so kids activities were things like snow tubing.

Looking at Imdb, it would seem CBC got this concept from a British BBC Back in Time series that started around 2015.

I’ve been enjoying NCIS more than I thought I would without Mark Harmon. Yesterday’s episode had 6 or 7 Star Trek references. Yes, mostly in character, but still funny. Of course, the new season of ST Discovery is coming in a few weeks and then the new season of Picard a month or so after that. Their version of product placement, I guess.

Has anyone else been watching Moving for Love on HGTV? I feel like the majority of these couples are not going to make it after their lukewarm desires to move lol.

Does anyone know if all the network TV shows are going to lay up during the Olympics with repeats? My online viewer guide doesn't go out that far to see if my non-NBC shows will be running new episodes or not.

I expect mostly reruns during the Olympics. You could check imdb.com. Wikipedia also has episode lists for most shows. It's hit or miss how far ahead they have episode info, though.

I'm looking forward to the new episodes of The Resident. I don't usually watch hospital dramas, but I've grown to like this one. Done just right with characters, roles and situations. Interesting stories.
Edit: It's on Fox, on Tuesday nights.

Did anybody watch March tonight? I'm guessing it's the CW network's response to Cheer on Netflix. March is all about a school's marching band, but it seemed like they focused more on the cheerleaders and dancing musicians within the band. I thought tonight's debut started off slow but had quite a strong second half. I got more involved with the people as the show progressed. Not sure if I will tune in next week or not. If you like Cheer, this might be one for you to check out.

Julie Chen teased that one of the houseguests on Celebrity Big Brother is an Olympic bronze medalist figure skater. Some people are guessing Debi Thomas. The show premieres next Wednesday but the cast list should be coming out shortly.

Oh gosh, go Mirai!! Here's the Big Brother twitter video with Mirai and the rest of the cast...

When they said Olympic Bronze Medalist I thought Adam but then said - no he's supposed to do Olympic Ice and help coach Mariah. Then I thought Ashley Wagner - but she too is supposed to do Olympic Ice. Then I thought - hmm, maybe Mirai.... and it was! I hope she will do well among the big personalities there. Hope she can find some alliance members - maybe Todrick?

I didn't realize that last Thursday were the final two episodes of season one of This Way Up. It's a 2019 UK comedy drama that only aired in Canada this month on the W network. So only six episodes for the first season...and it was really picking up steam! I'm not usually into shows where the character is neurotic and overly-quirky, but as Aisling Bea as Aine did a great job of drawing me into her character. And what a fantastic supporting cast, including Tobias Menzies (Outlander), Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) and Sharon Horgan (Game Night). There's a season two that aired in the UK in 2021, but I'm not sure when W will air it in Canada. I will be waiting... :)

I hope that means season 2 will be coming sooner rather than later on W. I managed to watch season 1 back around when it aired in the UK and I really liked it. I'm a big fan of Aisling Bea as a stand up comedian and she was great in the Doctor Who New Years special too.

MONARCH - Fox - 10 p.m. (Drama)
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT COSBY - Showtime - 10 p.m. (Docuseries)

Monarch has been pushed back to the fall of 2022. Wikipedia says that the kohved has delayed some production and Fox wants more time to promote the show before it debuts.

Kamau Bell was on The Daily Show last week talking about We Need To Talk About Cosby. It sounds like it's one not to miss. Unfortunately, I don't get Showtime. :(

Tuesday, February 1

THE REAL DIRTY DANCING - Fox - 9 p.m. (Competition)

I hope this is as fun as it sounds. :cheer:

I leeched off my brothers showtime account to watch Yellowjackets. It’s been compared to Lord of the Flies but it reminds me more of early season Lost, with A a few subversions: their time stranded is the flashback a
they’ve long been rescued in the present day, and they all knew each other.

Theres a few inconsistencies, like when did they crash (soccer is a fall sport and baseball is a spring sport, but they are in the same pep rally, the date of Shauna’s acceptance letter, and what year Allie was in), but overall really binge worthy with very complicated characters.
