Yes! Respect for classical music! A rarity - only Papadakis/Cizeron and Hawayek/Baker brought us that joy last season among ice dancers, that I recall. Tsuboi among men…Alysa Liu and Isabeau Levito for women.

p.s. Reminder that “classical music” does not include Broadway overtures, New Age schlock, or pop arrangements of Moonlight Sonata and such…Muse butcherings of Samson & Dalila (some guy screaming “Ray-ponds a ma tandraiseh”!)

That’s a classical ballet with folk tones (which I love). Not Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. He wasn’t skating to country music.

A side note really but I really like this new tradition of skaters announcing their music on instagram - it's always fun to get a bit of a sneak peak and it's especially nice when lower ranked skaters truly have a moment of recognition for their choices

I remember when going to Skate America practices provided the first hint of music selections.

Yes, I know Aaron Copland writes classical music. You mentioned folk tunes and "western" in your post. I have a much broader idea of country or western than 'Grand Ole Opry' or Nashville. Copland's 'Rodeo' is a lot like the cowboy ballet numbers in the musical 'Oklahoma.' I'm from Oklahoma, so that may explain part of it.

Classical music is popular but the downside is that certain pieces get overused. Carmen, Swan Lake, Nutcracker etc have been done to death. What are some great pieces of classical music that hardly anyone skates to that would make a great program?

Matthew Newnham (CAN) skated his Senior SP at 2022 Canadian Nationals to Rachmaninoff's famous Piano concerto no. 2 and used the music again when he competed last month in an Edmonton competition, landing his first clean 3A - video link is posted here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ring-summer-competitions.109657/#post-6257586
