I love her attitude. At this point qualifying for nationals would be a huge victory and if she could skate well enough to get an international assignment it would be icing on the cake.

I'd love for her to leave the sport on better terms, the way Emanuel Sandhu was able to when he came back for one final (and spellbinding) performance at Nationals. He didn't place or hold up technically, but he certainly closed his amateur career out better than initially.

If Gabby can go even further, I'll be thrilled, but having a happy and healthy experience would be all I could ask for any skater with a tough career.

Megan Woodley is assigned to JGP in Ankara (confirmed on Skate Canada's assignments page). Lulu Lin is on the ISU entries for JGP Gdansk (not confirmed by Skate Canada yet) which would be her second assignment.

Dupuis and Schizas are going to Nebelhorn. Ruiter doesn't have a challenger assignment yet but there are a few on the calendar before SCI.

Fingers crossed other skaters not assigned to a grand prix will get challenger assignments (a few have met the score standard).

Schizas mentioned at the HPC that she’ll be at both Nebelhorn and Budapest. Maybe we’ll see Kaiya in Budapest (now that we know that Canada is sending some sort of team there)?

I'm enjoying her consistency after her injury and growth - bodes well for the future. So glad she already has a second assignment.

Apparently there are rumours that Minsol Kwon of South Korea is going to be competing for Canada. She is on the Senior Women's list for Ontario Sectionals.

I've been on the fence about if I'd go to Nationals in Laval. I don't want to risk driving in the Eastern Ontario/Montreal cold and snow in January, and Laval is less convenient than Montreal if taking the train or flying in. But I would book my tickets and travel if Minsol Kwon somehow competes at Nationals to see her win live!

Korea is jammed with talent and the Korean women don't seem to have much longevity, not helped by the fact that they have these weird ranking competitions. Switching might benefit her. Would she compete as a junior or a senior this year at Nationals?

She is on the list for Senior Women in Sectionals so it would be Senior it seems if she competes at Nationals.

She is the junior champion of Korea, so would that move her up to seniors in Canada? Too bad she won't be eligible for the seniors ranks until after Milano.

Skaters no longer have to move up after winning juniors IIRC, as long as they're age-eligible. OTOH, there's no minimum age to skate seniors within Canada, and a lot of better single skaters will choose to compete senior domestically while still skating junior internationally (and Minsol Kwon certainly has the technical content to compete senior).

Quoting myself….so they are not on the Skate Canada international assignment page (they are still on the ISU list) but the men and dance entries are. Hopefully this is just an oversight and they will actually skate at this event.

Well Woodley didn't deliver at the same level in the free skate, but if you had said she would be top 10 in her JGP debut with a score above 156, I think everyone would have thought that was a good result. For comparison she only scored 118 total at the next gen competition and 145 at nationals where she won the short program (and that score included 2 points in bonus).

They also updated assignments for the remaining JGPs (Hetty Shi to Slovenia and Kara Yun to China). Breken Brezden and Fée Ann Landry are going to challenger in Nice. Laurie Nealin’s Sept. 27th interview with Breken Brezden for the Winnipeg Free Press: Brezden to make Team Canada debut in France

For the first time in 40 years, a Manitoba athlete has earned the nod from Skate Canada to compete for Canada in senior international competition alongside some of the world’s best female figure skaters.

Dauphin’s Breken Brezden will make her ISU Challenger Series debut in France in three weeks at the Trophy Metropole Nice Cote d’Azur.

“Knowing I can compete under pressure, not a ton (of pressure) because they weren’t qualifying events or anything yet, but just getting to go against really good competitors and see where I stand with all of them really helps to put everything into perspective.

“Having two triple lutzes in my (long) program has helped immensely with my score and really leaves an impression because I don’t know if many others (senior women) do two right now,” Brezden added, noting she’s also added triple-triple (jump) combos and honed her performance and skating skills.

Well Shiryaeva had a very successful senior international debut. She finished 4th at the Denis Ten Memorial event. She was 2nd in the short program with a 64.43, 5th in the free with a 114.4, total score 178.83 (an improvement of over 30 points from her total score personal best). She also easily achieved the CTES for worlds. This is the highest score for the Canadian women this year. It would behoove Skate Canada to give her another assignment, perhaps a head to head with Schizas before nationals.

The official live streams are unavailable but someone did post her short program.

If I've got my calculations right, I think this puts her 5th on the GP alternates list after Elyce Lin-Gracey, Sarah Everhardt, Lara Naki Gutmann, and Ahsun Yun.
