I attended Yuzuru's Echoes of Life show at Saitama Super Arena (Attendance: 14,000 x 3 shows) and had a great time. 🥰

The setting for the show is a dystopian society as VGH-257 NOVA. VGH are humans who were born as a result of having their DNA manipulated so that they would possess specific knowledge required for a variety of professions and lifestyles. Yuzuru wrote the story. Since it is based on a new story he chose to use (mostly) new programs for it.

Here's the set list for the show:

First Part:
1. "First Pulse" (Original composition for the show by Kenji Hiramatsu)
2. "First Echo" and "Circulation" (From Wolf Children by Masakatsu Takagi)
3. "Utai IV: Reawakening" (From Ghost in the Shell by Kenji Kawai)
4. "Mass Destruction: Reload" (From Persona 3 Reload by Lotus Juice)
5. Piano Collection by Shinya Kiyozuka:
- No. 3 Ballade in G minor (from Six Pieces for Piano, Op. 118 by Johannes Brahms)
- Prelude and Fugue in C minor, BWV 847 (from The Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach)
- Keyboard sonata in D minor, K. 141 (by Domenico Scarlatti)
- Étude Op. 25, No. 12 in C minor – Ocean (by Frédéric Chopin)
- Étude Op. 10, No. 4 in C-sharp minor – Torrent (by Frédéric Chopin)
6. Ballade No. 1 in G minor (by Frédéric Chopin)
7. "Goliath" (by MoppySound)

Second Part:
8. "Aqua no tabiji" (by MoppySound, piano version)
9. "Eclipse/Blue" (by Nosaj Thing feat. Kazu Makino)
10. "Gate of Steiner – Aesthetics on Ice" (from Steins;Gate by Takeshi Abo, piano version)
11. "Danny Boy" (by Keith Jarrett)
12. "Hymn of the Soul" (from Persona 3 by Haruko Komiya)

Ending Credit:
"Nova" (Original composition for the show by Masakatsu Takagi)

Encore:
1. "Let Me Entertain You" (by Robbie Williams)
2. "Ashura-chan" (by Ado; day 1), "Megalovania" (from Undertale by Toby Fox; day 2)
3. Seimei (from Onmyōji I and II by Shigeru Umebayashi; choreo sequence)

Here's the videos of some of my favorite programs from the show:

"Utai IV: Reawakening" (From Ghost in the Shell by Kenji Kawai)

"Mass Destruction: Reload" (From Persona 3 Reload by Lotus Juice)

Piano Collection by Shinya Kiyozuka

Add Megalovania encore just for the scream 😆

Kassouya
Kassouya allows guests to take videos with their cell phone, so there are lots of nice clips on SNS, such as these HQ clips:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ6PDGPWKSg

Picture quality that some of the cell phones take are amazing.

Others (there are really quite many posting):

THE ICE has been canceled for this summer apparently.

Will be so fun to see who all is screaming about who all in solo ice shows or whatever Uno wishes to do with this new show of his.

Not surprising given that it's an Oly season. Skaters would rather stay home and prep than disrupt their training for several weeks. Presumably, it will be back in 2026.

Wasn't there THE ICE 2013 and 2017? There wasn't one in 2021, because COVID.

Just for whatever it's worth, Mao Asada, Yuzuru Hanyu, and to an extent Takahashi/Uno were massively popular in Japan. It's not necessary that the ice shows continue to find profit in the pre-existing models. I note that Asada and Hanyu's shows have continued to be successful, and haven't been canceled.

There are too many ice shows in Japan. Imagine going to 50 performances in 2024 to see your favorite skaters skated 3-4 programs repeatedly. That is a huge financial burden and naturally fans will be more selective in choosing which ice shows to attend.

As far as I know (Out of Mao, Yuzu, Takahashi, and Uno) Mao and Yuzu had the least show appearances last year. I guess that's one of the reasons why their shows have continued to be successful.

I actually kind of feel bad for The Ice. It used to be Mao's show. I didn't really enjoy it after she left, and the last year's idea was a disaster (I don't think I'd even watched, not least because... boring men).

I know there are many ice shows in Japan. I wonder if we'll get more news of cancellation or not. I doubt Asada/Hanyu's will be part of any cancellation lists though.

Last year was a complete disaster. :slinkaway

There are rumors since last year that Yuzu won't join FAOI this year. And from the FAOI info we got so far, he won't be there.
But in Yuzu's case, I think never planned to join lots of show anyway.

IMHO, shows like The Ice, SOI, and FAOI will have the hardest hit.

Yeah he just has better things to do.

I'm fine with these 'joint' shows getting shut down, I think. You go to competitions, or you go to solo shows (if a skater can open one to carry it off anyway). Silly to keep paying for 'debut' shows for programs, and then watching them 100+ times per season. Like even ignoring ice shows, that's tedious, and nobody but the most obsessed cares enough.

Shows like The Ice and ATS and others were good back when program choreography actually mattered, so it made sense to debut them early and start refining the programs early in the summer. Choreography doesn't anymore, it looks like a mish mash of unpleasant pap. So no point in letting skaters have shows for them, IMO.
