Gotcha.

Truth be told, his current hair style makes him not such great eye-candy, lol.
He wants to go back to his 20s 😜.
(I wanted to share a picture of his but I can't manage to do it... Url won't work... Suggestions?)

It wasn't earlier today when I checked - but it's now Tuesday in Lausanne, so that doesn't surprise me we got the update today.

Also - now the Grand Prix page on the "updated" website just refuses to load for me at all. I've refreshed my browser a million times too. I hate the "new" website so much. I'm getting the following error no matter which browser I use -

Application error: a client-side exception has occurred (see the browser console for more information).

Nooooo… Filipinos need Japanese visas! Just read Gamez Korovin withdrew from NHK and saw a reply on their team page they received the invitation too late and not enough time to process their Japanese visas for travel. How heartbreaking!
Awwww! That's terrible!

The grid does show them as WD. Next team on the list is Martins/Bedard - who are slated for their season debut at Warsaw Cup - though I'm sure they would gladly take the GP assignment if they're competition ready now.

My friend’s son’s wife, a Filipina, married friend’s son while they were working in Hanoi. Now he’s back in US and are stuck apart til US green card comes through. Apparently the Filipino passport triggers alarms all over, especially in Asia, and it’s hard to get visas anywhere. :(

I thought the ISU changed their rules so that skaters could use any passport, which would mean that the issue is that he'd need a visa with either passport. She, presumably, has a US passport, too.

Well, he has a Russian passport and a Filipino passport - both require a visa for Japan.

ETA - no Filipino passport quite yet.

awww...I am truly heartbroken. I am supposing it's not because of the Filipino passport, though, because Alexander only has Russian citizenship at the moment (per a recent article he does not have the Filipino passport yet but is in process) and Bella doesn't need a visa with her American passport. So it was probably Alexander who could not get a visa.

Whatever the visa situation was, Isabella and Alexander were in Japan for Worlds 2023, so seems it’s all about timing. So sorry for this pair who learned last minute and couldn’t take advantage of this opportunity. Probably further discussion about soooo many pairs and others waiting until the last minute to withdraw.

Thank you - I looked but missed seeing the reply comment today on their Oct. 20th post.

I wonder how much extra time they would have needed? Perhaps B/G should have withdrawn from both of their GPs at the same time … but it was their right to wait in case they felt there still was a chance - however small - to go.

It is their right, but they've waited until the Thursday beforehand both times and while I can understand doing so for SCI, she had to have known earlier in this week that her injury situation was not improving and that NHK was out of the question. I really think they were selfish this week in not withdrawing on Monday or Tuesday.

Well looking at the calendar and assuming GamKor received the invitation on Thursday when their assignment was announced that probably would have only given Friday and Monday to try to get a visa to be in Tokyo by Wednesday if they’re training in the NJ or Sochi. Two business days to get a visa does seem almost impossible, whatever country your passport is from and any visa you may try to get if needed.

I guess here we see the competition advantage of skaters who have powerful passports...and understand the desperation of those who don't...

I have to say, one of the best moves (only moves..) that the ISU has made in a long time is the institution of a set alternate list and the prompt adding of skaters to events to fill out the rosters. Skaters are being rewarded for early-season standout performances now, which I also like.

Agreed! The only thing that I would would tweak is the assigned/invited skaters being required to confirm their participation no later than 8 days before the start of the event in order to give the alternates time to get visa requests processed if necessary.
