GPFinal Watch - Women:
In:
1 Sakamoto 30 Points
2 Higuchi 28 Points
3 Yoshida 26 Points
Bubble:
4 Matsuike 26 Points (13+13)

Next Week:
Glenn (15), Chiba (13), Watanabe (13), Simiyoshi (11)

A podium of Sumiyoshi, Chiba, Watanabe winning - Chiba/Watanabe 2nd (with tie-break) - Glenn would push Matsuike out.
And Chaeyeon Kim has 9 points, so if she wins & Glenn finishes 2nd, that will push Chiba, Watanabe & Sumiyoshi out with Matsuike & Kim making it instead.

Sure, but I think she's far less likely to win than Chaeyeon.
Their first event scores are closer than the distance between Chaeyeon and Amber/Mone.

So, both are still a mathematical possibility albeit probably very small.

You are really cute here, trying to draft a narrative that Chaeyeon's expected performance level & score is closer to Kimmy than Amber/Mone.

Chaeyeon's Challenger score was much higher and closer to the SBs put up by Amber & Mone than it is to Kimmy's SB from SCI. GPdF was the 4th competition in 5 weeks for Chaeyeon thanks to a stupid KSF ranking competition the week between Shanghai Trophy & Trophee Metropole Nice. She'd scored really well at the first three comps and I figured she was due for a bad comp, which she had at GPdF... And she still managed a 199.99 score there that would have... WON today or at SkAm and been on the podium at SCI or NHK.

I don't know why you insist on typing novels about what is going to happen. Repond is just as much in the picture as Chaeyeon Kim if we are to consider the field and what has happened already this season with unpredictability. It doesn't matter what has happened all season, or how you personally feel one skate was just a one-off.

Finally, for what it's worth, Japan is still 100% in it to possibly have ALL SIX skaters in the Final. It's not exactly a closed-book case for Glenn.

I'm just saying that I think it's more likely Chaeyeon pulls off a surprise win next week than Kimmy, and I'm willing to back that up with their actual scoring history over the course of the season. I don't think the perfect storm scenario is likely to come to pass, especially seeing as, like you say, Amber's not exactly a closed-book case for the GPF.

But, hush, do you REALLY want either of us to incur the wrath of @AngieNikodinovLove (ANL) by putting that out there?

Give me Chris any day. Mark is mostly incomprehensible particularly when over excited. Wish ISU would invest in some presentation training. Half a octave lower might do the trick.

Chris doesn't keep up with the sport, doesn't know competitions that happened last week versus last season, knows next to nothing about ice dance, and so on.

I don't think Mark is that difficult to understand, and I think especially this week he's delved into really specific bullet-points of some of the PCS criteria, which no one else would ever dare do because they haven't bothered to read any of it.

I’m traveling so much right now. It’s hard to keep up with. I’m doing my best.

Question – if Lara had one more point in her total from today and won the whole competition, I wonder how that could affect or would have affected the Grand Prix final. So interesting.

I really appreciate the work that Mark puts into preparing for every competition, and have been noticing the recent increase in PCS insight. I do wish the technical panel would see some of the rotation issues (and edge issues) that he notes real time and in replays, though.

They see it, they just choose to look the other way. Or better yet, the excuse of "but we only have one camera angle and the rotation wasn't clear" :p

The same story, 20 years later..

Yoshida - glad she won. the rotation on the 3A actually looked pretty decent despite the fall. < seems harsh. would have gone with q.

Matsuike - she always seems like a different skater between the short and long. the short is a painfully junior cheezeball program and her jumps suck. then she wins the long and is completely sublime.

Gutmann - excited for her to win a medal! hope she can keep up this consistency heading into Euros.

Everhardt - the 3T in the 2A+3T seemed very under to me, surprised to see it get a free pass. the q's seem fair. the myth of her infallible rotations finally getting a dose of reality here.

Yun - love her jumps but awkward landing positions and absolutely ZERO musicality although I think that's partly the choreography which was pretty atrocious. could be a medal threat at some point but needs a lot of work.

Schild - yawn.

Petrokina - nice for her to have a satisfying, redemptive free.

Mihara - don't know why she's on the GP circuit. she seems so out of shape and undertrained. love her personally but her skating is a shell of its former self.

I don't have trouble understanding Mark. I did think he was a bit babbly last night / this morning. But not during the skates which is the most important thing.

Chris has grown on me but he's also gotten a lot better than the first time he commentated last season (it was last season when we started BINGO, right?) I think he was rusty back then. But not following the sport or understanding ice dance is problem for me and I much prefer someone who at least follows the sport. Knowing about ice dance on top is awesome.

Ahsun, great dress color and some nice jumps. I appreciate the flow out of her jumps. Though the choreography had nothing to do with the music. A few times there I wondered whether the audio was out of sync.
I want introverted Lindsey to go to Tom Dickson. Well, and to rotate her jumps.
Rino, just lovely skating. Could have a second life as an ice dancer. And then teaching edge classes.
Everhardt’s dress is just wack. Just no.
Is Hana supposed to be an alien space waitress? That’s the vibe I get from her look.

I don't doubt Mark's expertise in Ice Dance, nor that he has learnt a lot about the other disciplines. However, at the end of the day if your ennunciation is not crystal clear, the pitch too high and ISU streaming sound quality so poor a lot of it goes to waste.

I think it's your streaming quality, not the ISU's. The sound quality for the commentators is rarely ever an issue with the ISU streams on either the JGP or the GP.

Mark's enunciation is just fine, by the way. - it's a Scottish accent, hardly something most native English-speakers will struggle with understanding given the proliferation of British film & television across the globe.

The music edit isn't helping either. Sooo many people have skated to this and it is like they decided they weren't going to use any previous FS Scheherazade arrangement. It's bizarre.

It sounds like an AI arrangement of a warhorse.
