Initial TES lead was about 5 points over Kaori TES
We call this "TES pummeling", used often by Eteri girls.
Mao happy.
75.58, TES panel must have hit her hard.
ETA: TES down by 2, but it was low PCS which determined the scores. 7.79 across the board, my foot! "Defying Gravity" with clean 3A (even with Gestapo q), joyously performed by Mao, is the best SP in both Senior and Junior!
It enrages me since this is exactly what the judges did to Midori Ito in late 80s.

The 3A did look q, but honestly, I'd still give it her over Kaori. K's programme doesn't suit her, she's not nearly sharp enough.

The pool of talent in Japan is insane. Will the 18th place skater at Euros, Wolds or Oly score 59.00?

Good night from Japan.
What surprised me in this SP was:
How blatant the tech panel was in favoring the second half skaters. Ditto for PCS scores.
First half skaters would score 1.5-2.0 points higher from international panel, IMHO.
The only junior skater not to qualify for the free was the current World Bronze Medalist.
Mao scores should be at least tied with Kaori scores, if not higher.

It looks like Kaori and Mone are shoe-ins for Worlds. Third spot to Rino or Wakaba, doesn’t look like Rinka or Hana got any favors from judges. Although if Hana or Rion hit their 3As perfectly in the FS they have a chance.

Much as I love Aoki, her TES in the FS isn’t strong enough to beat the others and she didn’t make the GPF.

Japanese women really delivered today and all these SP performances are worth watching.
