She appeared on a morning news show in Japan this morning. She was so cute & beautiful in the same red dress as the one she was in at Shiseido's press conference yesterday. Wish we'll see more smiles from her all through this season. We can see a bit of her new SP in this video too. She said her coaches picked the music for her and she accepted it since she wanted to skate a different type program from her previous ones.

Alina has become very much admired and highly respected after her somewhat unexpected victorious triumph at PyeongChang. By all accounts, Alina is said to be a genuinely lovely, wonderful person with a huge heart, approachable demeanor, and infectious personality. I am happy to see her experiencing some post-Olympic opportunities and success. I hope that she has an enjoyable, fun-filled 2018/19 season.

Question to history geeks - is Alina first Muslim skater to medal on majors (or any competitions at all)?

I wouldn’t count on her being a practicing Muslim. I belong to the same ethnic group as her - and I tell you that we’re classified as Muslims just because we happen to be Tatars.
The percentage of practicing Muslims among Tatars is slowly growing, but it’s still pretty low among people of Alina’s age. Or even of my age group. It’s only later in life that people start going for that stuff...

Yeah, I know this stuff (I am Kazakh) and I am not "practicing Muslim" myself but I identify myself as Muslim, as Alina does (she said it herself).

Hey! NHK's evening news and also morning news showed a) Zagitova made it to Japan b) she grew 7 cm since Olys c)she received a mattress for a pet from airwave (a Japanese mattress company) as a present to Masaru. Guys, are they 'news' to be aired by a public broadcasting station? Japan's gonna buy a house for her. Really.

Loved the FS from Japan Open. I didn't see a video of the SP. I don't mind the overused music when Alina is skating to it.:D She has great musicality.

Wow, that FS was pure quality. I can't even count how many Carmen programs I have watched in my time, but Alina's interpretation was still engaging and interesting. Love the costume too. Plus her jumps! :respec: She looks even better than last season. I feel like she can still improve her posture just a bit, but it seems that her motivation remains strong and there's no reason to think she won't continue to work on her minute imperfections.

Poor Masaru has to work as hard as Alina. Maybe she was annoyed that her grandma didn't work hard enough?

Just kidding! I love Alina. I was thinking of Medvedeva's recent comment that in preparation for the Olympics Alina worked harder than anyone she (Med) had ever seen, and that she could only imagine that she is working twice as hard now, impossible as that may be, because she has to deal with body change issues.

I am wildly happy for her! Mad respect for this gifted, determined, loyal*, disciplined and hardworking young athlete! ❤️❤️❤️

*Contrast her birthday message to Eteri with Eteri's sometime treatment of her in the K&C or after that practice at Euros where Eteri would barely look at her.

Well I never thought she'd be able to do this after the season she'd had but it's hugely impressive to get herself back together so well after a roller coaster season. If she has to stay in the Eteri camp however, I do hope she is able to get better programs. She deserves much better than she is given IMO.

Congratulations to Alina! :cheer2:I'm so happy for her. I'm so glad she continued her career after the Olympics. Her road to success hasn't been easy. I feel like the poor girl hasn't been able to fully savor her victories due to perception or bias. People forget that she is 16. I'm happy that she had a great event at a venue that truly loves her.:)

I'm so proud of her for showing all the naysayers she's not finished until she says she's finished. She's really matured physically this year and it was a major adjustment, like it is for all female skaters. But, she kept working and her results say it all. She's now got the full compliment of gold medals, something very few Olympic champions have. At this point, she has nothing she has to prove to anybody. She can compete or quit and move on to other things. She has the money to do what ever she wants to do now. She's sensible and a hard worker and she will succeed at whatever she choses to do. This was the one Worlds result I really wanted.
