Scroll down to Ashley's update here:I noticed that Ashley is no longer listed as a coach at Skating Club of Boston. Does anyone know if she’s giving up coaching?
Bobby Martin and his Skate Pairs program is based now in Wellesley, Mass.:"Can't complain," said Wagner, who spent December on tour in Spain with Javier Fernández. "I went to the Grand Prix Final twice in Barcelona. Now I'm finally getting to see the rest of Spain."
As she was living it, Wagner rarely gave herself credit for what she accomplished competitively. With perspective, she now appreciates everything. She does a bit of coaching, helping out Bobby Martin and giving seminars. She's also starting studies in psychology with the hopes of becoming a psychologist focused on trauma.
"I'm in a totally new chapter, almost a new book, of my life," she said. "It's a bit of a vagabond lifestyle, but I love it."

Looking back on my skating career, I realized I needed to set myself up for more options. I tried online school and found it wasn’t for me. I decided to apply to a school here in Boston and I am proud to announce I GOT ACCEPTED INTO NORTHEASTERN! Working towards my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology this fall, LET’S GO!
Ashley will be 30 on May 16 and here she is reminiscing today with some photos: https://www.instagram.com/p/COx_BJUpnXP/
So far I've only watched Ashley's Confidence Call with Lindsay Arnold -- and it was fantastic. Ashley drew Lindsay out on the topic of how Lindsay instilled confidence in her DWTS partners, who often haven't had any dance background. Despite their beginner status and the frequent mistakes that go along with trying and improving. Ashley seemed to be drawing comparisons with her experience as a skater.More recent Confidence Calls are archived on Ashley's IGTV page (Nastia Liukin, Lindsay Arnold, etc.): https://www.instagram.com/ashwagner2010/channel/
Ashley mentioned she is planning to have her own YouTube channel at some point.
She will chat live with Adam at 9 pm Eastern time tonight: https://www.instagram.com/p/CErfRw6pDm5/

Time flies!Ashley will be 30 on May 16 and here she is reminiscing today with some photos: https://www.instagram.com/p/COx_BJUpnXP/
She is 30, a junior at Northeastern University, studying psychology with the goal of having a therapy practice focusing on trauma-related issues and working with the LGBTQ+ community. She uses Instagram to be an advocate for body positivity.
She has skated in shows (before the pandemic hit) and done some commentary for NBC. She has created a frequently sold-out weekly power skating class, Skate and Sculpt, for “retired” skaters with basic skills at the Dorchester rink, and Wagner plans to take it to other cities this winter. She helps coach young, non-elite skaters at a rink in suburban Wellesley, preferring a secondary, backup role.
“I go in, support some skaters, sprinkle some chaos and then don’t have to deal with it,” Wagner said, laughing. “I feel like I am a part-time therapist, part-time technical coach. It’s a nice sweet spot to stay involved in the sport but not too involved. And as a psychology student, coaching has taught me how to navigate how different people learn in different ways.”
Over an hour-long FaceTime interview with a person whom I covered as a competitor for 11 years beginning in 2007, it was easy to see just how much Wagner’s new and different life has positively impacted her wellbeing.
“I genuinely am happy,” she said. “A lot of people who have known me throughout my career have never experienced me happy.
“It’s not skating’s fault that I was never really happy. But it’s nice to be at this point where I have as much access to skating as I choose. Now I get to skate because I want to, not because I have to. I’m working towards a future that probably has nothing to do with skating, and that is exciting for me.”
NBC Boston's 10 Questions segment (Dec. 1):“A Night of Stars will feature the opening of the new skating facility in Norwood and it will also be The Skating Club of Boston’s first full capacity event,” she said. “I am excited for everyone to see how incredible it is. Scott Hamilton, who is skating royalty, will be hosting the event. It’s going to be a very accomplished group of athletes and Olympians, all under one roof. These are all people I look up to. It’s going to be a very exciting event with proceeds benefiting the CARES Foundation, Mass General Brigham and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.”

ETA that she will be conducting her "Skate & Sculpt" class at the Skating Club of Boston every Tuesday at 7:10 PM from July 12 to August 23, 2022: https://skateandsculpt.com/events
2022- Thank you. This is the first year I’ve truly felt awake in my life. Every step I took this year brought me to where I am now, and I’m so thankful for the lessons learned, the laughs shared, and the love experienced. I’m graduating college, I’ve got a fitness app on the way and a clothing line about to be dropped. I think 2023 will be the best one yet![]()
Though they are in the early stages of planning a wedding at this time, Wagner said they will likely marry at Scenic Beach State Park, the place where she thought Clarke was going to propose, and where she has always wanted to get married. However, they are in no hurry and will likely not wed until sometime in 2024.
Both sets of parents are excited about the upcoming nuptials. Wagner said her fiancé is “really great with my family and he is a really nice fit into our dynamic. I am very, very close to my younger brother and it was he who Alex asked if he could marry me, which I thought was a really sweet sentiment.”
Though it took a little time after her initial move in the fall of 2018, Wagner has settled into life in Boston. She is currently a full-time student at Northeastern University and is set to graduate this summer with a degree in psychology.
It was so cute to hear about the details!!IFS article (Jan. 8, 2023) on Ashley and her fiancé, Alex, including details of his proposal to her last summer: https://ifsmagazine.com/ashley-wagner-a-lavender-proposal/
“... I am a firm believer that not every skater, whether it be figure skating or hockey, has to be on that Olympic track, but at the same time, it can still really bring a lot of incredible things to your life,” Wagner said.
“I learned so many valuable life skills on the ice, from time management to grit and dedication. So, to be able to bring that to a new generation of athletes just feels like my responsibility, and I want to keep that momentum going. Bringing it to the rink here at Nantucket Ice, it just felt like the natural next step for me on-island.”
Wagner’s husband Alex Clark, a first-year teacher at Cyrus Peirce Middle School, was raised on-island and still has family here. Wagner said that helped influence their decision to move to Nantucket to raise their daughter.
Wagner also specializes in teaching adults how to skate, with those programs also available at Nantucket Ice.
“It’s an awesome workout. I know a lot of adults get really intimidated kind of starting up this sport from scratch, but it’s one of the easiest ways to meet cool people and get a workout in,” she said.
“When I’m working with adults, I really try to break down the mechanics of it so that it feels approachable and manageable, and it isn’t scary. Kids get over the fear factor really quickly. Adults, you really have to kind of ease them onto the ice.”
