Fall 2022-Summer 2023 New/Returning TV/Streaming Shows

I believe this is the final season of "The Good Fight" and it is interesting and each week a little more bizarre. I believe the show's creators wanted to leave a message to Democrats, to liberal billionaires and to people who wish to fight extremism from the Right. And they shout out for their choice for POTUS. It isn't present company. The messaging gets a little more intense as we moving through the season. Sometimes it feels like a fever dream and leaves the viewer with plenty to ponder. I think the finale is Thursday.

Yes, I can't believe there is just one episode to wrap up this season. I have NO idea how they can conclude this wild season with just one hour. The last episode especially was I was so happy when this show started so I didn't have to grieve (very much) the loss of The Good Wife. Now I like this show just as much (if not more). Perhaps writer/producers Robert and Michelle King have some new shows up their sleeves that we will get to dive into at some point.

I love Christine Baranski, I love that the show is centered on a black law firm and I love that we see some characters from The Good Wife: Elspeth! But this season takes the cake and I do think this is entirely because of the situation we find ourselves in here in the US. I almost think the Kings and other showrunners are suggesting a blueprint for liberals going forward. Of course the suggestion about what to do with right wing extremists committing crimes is WILD. Also Alicia has been mentioned off and on this season. I wonder.....

I've been a fan of Young Sheldon since episode one. I still love the show, but I'm finding myself wanting to watch Ghosts first. The cast is just so amazing. I wonder if they all came from sketch comedy troupes, because they are all so fantastic. This show deserves to sweep the supporting actor/actress spots in the comedy category at next year's Emmy awards.

DANGEROUS LIAISONS (Special Time) - Starz - 9 p.m. (Drama)

I'm enjoying this series. And not just because the magnificent Lesley Manville is one of the main stars. Alice Englert is great as Camille, I think the slow burn of this show is reflected in her character very well. I'm looking forward to (yet kind of scared) to see what kind of havoc will unfold coming from her simmering anger. And in a smaller role is the wonderful pop singer Paloma Faith, who seems to be as great an actress as she is a pop star. I had no idea she had done so much work in television and film.

The show overall seems to be quite different from the Glenn Close/John Malkovich/Michelle Pfeiffer movie I saw many years ago. Probably a program "based on...." the novel. And I think they're doing a great job of it. Wonder if they hope for it to be an ongoing series or if it will be a one-time mini-series. Either way...I'm in!

You know Lesley is certainly having a moment in my life: I started this series, recently watched her in Magpie Murders, Sherwood and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris. And that is just part of what she is doing these days. She is one busy actress. Bravo!

It's not one to watch when you're in a gentle mood as her character is very sweet and most of the people around her are obliviously unsensitive quite often. But her calm, understated performance amongst their chaos is kind of soothing. I think the first thing I ever saw Manville in was the movie Another Year. I fell in love with her instantly.

Oh wow Peter--I've not seen Mum (yet) but you selected a Mike Leigh film and I love Mike Leigh films. That is where I found Lesley too but this was a heartbreaker called All or Nothing. I do vaguely remember her from High Hopes and Leigh uses the same actors over and over again so they are young in High Hopes (I think Lesley was married to Gary Oldman then) and more middle aged for the rest. I think she gets better with age.

I was surprised to see this feature in the New York Times as I had never heard of this and was wary---would the acting be wooden and the scripts awful? But after watching the first episode I might give this one a go. Here is the gifted feature:

I watched the first season of The Chosen with my small group and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The acting is actually quite good, the stories are engaging, and I love that it has a bit of humor mixed in there. We're gonna watch the second and third seasons after the holidays.

I second this. I love westerns generally and I'm a big fan of Emily Blunt but I still wasn't sure what to expect. I'm going to watch the last episode tomorrow but this is definitely a show I will rewatch in the future.

Did anyone watch Special Forces: Worlds Toughest Test show? I know its just a reality show and those 'celebrities' signed up for this but geez .. tone it down a little maybe? Yeah, a few of them are retired athletes so have a lifetime of training and keeping their bodies in good shape and can handle physical exeration, but its mostly like average middle age (and older! 63 year old Dr. Drew!) people and it was kinda painful watching this show cause damn those people were hurting. Kate Gosselin nearly breaks her neck, Dr. Drew nearly like ... dies maybe? These are just mostly normal people and these tasks are brutal. I feel so bad for them.

Now if you had this exact show, but loaded it up with like some physically fit Marine recruits to go thru these tests, that would be a cool show. Because it would be people physically capable of doing these demanding tasks, but eventually even some of them would have to tap out.

Oh .. and Nastia Luikin is one for any gym fans.
