So sad - I had tickets for Vish/Gomes in SB tomorrow, but my friend I was visiting had a death in her family and had to leave town. I was still going to go up, but now I have to leave on Sunday morning on business travel. Fortunately, she sold the tickets.

I didn't think she was a particularly good actress, though the argument between her and her co-star was well-acted. But I definitely loved her dancing! And I had to smile when I saw there was a tweet from Sascha Radetsky mentioned in the article since he was on "Center Stage" too.

ABT has made Stella Abrera & Misty Copeland Principal Dancers. Finally. Luciana Paris, Thomas Forester, Cassey Trenary, among others, have been promoted to soloist today. Announcements were made to the dancers this morning.

Albert Evans, a former dancer with the NYCB died at the age of 46! There have been so many deaths these past few days :( My heart goes out to his family and friends and to his students and fellow dancers, too! I'm sure they'll treasure what they've learned from him and translate it into something beautiful on stage and let him live on like that! http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...azing-new-york-city-ballet-dancer-dies-at-46/
NY Times obituary: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/25/a...ullient-city-ballet-dancer-is-dead-at-46.html

Has anyone heard of where the Mariinsky ballet tour will be performing in the US this September and October?

Just finished watching a lovely PBS presentation of School of American Ballet (SAB), the feeder school for NYC Ballet. Presentation of 2014vyear-end workshop showcase. Lovely Tchaik. Serenade and a Swan Lake excerpt. Lots of promise with the young soloists. The men were a stand-out in Western Symphony, esp. Christopher Grant. I liked the young lady who did Odette but on another board, most people seemed not to.

Thanks for mentioning this. Somehow I missed it, but PBS had on their website and I managed to see it. I enjoyed it all; it was the perfect thing for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I was somewhat bored with the Swan Lake, tbh. And in Western Symphony it was all about the men. Weirdly, I totally visually understood casting the lead girl in Tanny's role, but it almost emphasized how much it WASN'T her.

Does anyone else here love the Basque ballerina Lucia Lacarra? (She has danced in NYC at least once....) I found her on YT by accident, and think she has it all. I've never seen a better Coppelia. Such charm and beauty!

ETA: I should have said Swanhilda, oops.

It's #WorldBalletDay and San Francisco's segment started only 20 minutes ago and runs until 6pm PT, with guest half hours by Houston Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet starting at 5pm PT.

http://worldballetday.com/

(You can access it on YouTube and read the incessant chatter from the bunheads if you prefer.)

Hosts Joanna Berman and Helgi Tomasson said that there would be rehearsal coverage of Yuan Yuan Tan (@IceAlisa) and Tiit Helimets rehearsing "Giselle," which has started with Myrtha's solo currently Sylve.

Also for NYCB fans and PA Ballet fans especially, there's a new project that dancer/choreographer launched today called "Core-ography" and the first segment is on Lauren Fadeley, who left NYCB, went to college, and came back:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATtfDfQfszM

If you like it, you can subscribe to the channel. There are 12 segments planned in total over the next year, and other announced dancers are: Bridgett Zehr, Brooklyn Mack (Misty Copeland's partner in the Washington Ballet "Swan Lake"), Andrew Brader, Maria Chapman, John Lam, Kiara Felder, Cervilio Amador, Shira Lanyi, Allen Joseph, Kara Zimmerman, and Jessica Daley.

Don't know if here is the place to post it, but Oksana Skorik is now a principal with the Mariinsky.
Well...

I was up till all hours (5AMcoughcough) watching World Ballet Day. When the Bolshoi came on at 3AM I told myself I'd skip watching RIGHT NOW and go to bed, because they were just doing company class, and it would probably be at least an hour till they got around to actual rehearsal. But my self-discipline failed.

I must be in denial and decided that the inevitable has already happened. :wall: I like her and think she has potential but really, ahead of Olesya Novikova???
