Solene Mazingue posted this update video on her IG earlier today. While preparing for Finlandia, she took a bad fall in practice and required surgery, which is why they haven't been competing this fall. She says they're working their way back to competition soon.

Thanks - I also posted this scary news today in the Dance Hall thread since @Belsornia had asked about Mazingue/Gaidajenko there earlier this month.

It seems that Morisi did what he had to do. Yes, it is sad right now. We saw the immediate result today…but he will absorb the shock and move on, not just competitively.
Think of all of the family/friends who he’s left behind.

if the Georgians were able to keep training in Russia, I assume they would. Probably the organizational/travel hurdles are too high or too risky.

Alexander König certainly is a good pairs coach, but at the moment his main job is in speed skating and according to Hocke and Kunkel skating conditions in Berlin are really bad (which is why they left Berlin), so I assume the Georgian pairs switching to König has similar reasons and it wasn't their big dream to suddenly move to Berlin.

I imagine it's a bit of a difficult transition for all Georgian skaters.

"Get to know Estonian figure skater Eva-Lotta Kiibus" 5-minute video uploaded by her clothing brand, JIV Sport, earlier today (filmed before Finlandia Trophy): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1o28HYA-AQ

She says she started training in the Netherlands in September (switched from Anna Levandi to Thomas Kennes) - link to an Estonian news article & video dated August 31, 2022 that machine translates pretty well:
Kiibus originally was assigned to one Grand Prix (Espoo) and was added to NHK Trophy on Sept. 23 (replaced Ryabova).

Or they would get drafted, because the RusFed would not do anything to get them out. Gubanova is the only `Georgian' who can stay in Russia as she would not be drafted, unlike the pairs/dance/single guys

I'm pretty sure Egadze is still training in Moscow, or at least he was just before his first GP in France. He was posting video clips from a Moscow rink on his IG. Of course, this could have changed in the past few weeks.

Nika Egadze was born in Georgia and probably doesn't have Russian citizenship.

Eva-Lotta Kiibus' message today: https://www.instagram.com/p/CmPlEyWLjD6/
This year I am not competing at Estonian Nationals. It wasn’t an easy move, but It is a very much needed move for my health.
I have struggled with injuries that keep coming back and because of that my mental state and form is just not ready to go.
Not to make the same mistakes like last year, a step back had to be made. I have strong and most importantly, a smart team behind my back❤️And with their help, I give my best and all my passion to get the best whats left in this season💪
@thomas.kennes
My next competitions are Winter Universiade 2023 and most importantly Europeans❤️

Re-posting @Andrea82's link to the CZE federation's Nationals recap from the Pairs general discussion thread:
Machine translation (European Championships selections are bolded below):
The women's category brought a great fight for the Czech title and a ticket to the EC. After the short program, Barbora Vránková led by half a point ahead of Eliška Březinová. However, even the free ride did not go as expected, and Vránková, who made only one mistake, increased her lead even more. In addition to the national title, she also took home an international medal, silver. Vránková's participation in the EC could have been prevented by a deadline with the European Youth Olympic Festival. "This year, unfortunately, both events take place on the same date, so Bára had to make a decision. She traveled to Europe, so we can look forward to seeing her in Espoo, so we won't have a representative at EYOF," comments the president of the union, Stanislav Židek.
Not even the seventeenth sports couple from the Olympic Games in Beijing, Jelizaveta Žuková and Martin Bidař, will go to the championship. They did not participate in the MČR for family reasons. The national title was thus won by the only participating sports pair Federica Simioli and Alessandro Zarbo, who represented Italy last year. "Federica and Alessandro met the limit for the EC, won the national title, so they will go to Espoo in January," explains Židek. The category of junior sports pairs also had a single Czech representative. Another national title and a ticket to Calgary [Junior Worlds] went to Barbora Kuciánová and Lukáš Vochozek.
Petr Kotlařík entered the international championship of the Czech Republic as a returnee after injury. He easily won his first national championship after four years. In addition, Kotlařík was only 0.24 points short of winning international bronze. Even so, the Czech competitor secured participation in the European Championship in January. The second Czech Georgii Reshtenko will also be there. Thanks to Michal Březina's tenth place last year, the Czech Republic can send two competitors to Espoo.
The category of dance couples had a clearer course. Siblings Natálie and Filip Taschler left no one in doubt and secured first place in the country and in the entire championship of four countries with a successful free ride. The same situation occurred in the junior dance pairs, where the siblings Kateřina and Daniel Mrázk[ov] also managed to win two golds and at the same time to participate in the World Junior Championship in Calgary.

From the end of the Austrian federation's recap on their website (2023 Europeans selections are bolded below):
At the ISU European Figure Skating Championships, which will take place in Espoo, Finland at the end of January 2023, Maurizio Zandron will compete in men's singles and Sophia Schaller and Livio Mayr in pair skating. Despite the ÖM absence, they will be accompanied by Olga Mikutina, who clearly leads the Austrian women's field due to her previous performances in international competitions. The ice dancers Corinna and Patrik Huber have not yet achieved the required technical minimum points, which are a prerequisite for a European Championship start.
Winter World University Games selections:
In the individual disciplines, Emily Saari [new senior champion] and Luc Maierhofer [men's silver medalist] will also represent Austria at the Winter World University Games (Winter Universiade) from January 12 to 22 in Lake Placid, USA.

Most recent articles tagged 'kunstrijden' on the Netherlands' skating federation website:

Dec. 16, 2022 (scroll to the end): https://www.schaatsen.nl/nieuws/2022/december/kort-door-de-bocht-6/
Participants of the European Figure Skating Championships known
Lindsay van Zundert (individual, women), Nika Osipova and Dmitry Epstein (pair riding) and Hanna Jacuks and Alessio Galli (ice dancing) will represent the Netherlands at the upcoming European Figure Skating Championships. That tournament for the various disciplines will take place between 23 and 29 January 2023 in Espoo, Finland.
Dec. 10:
Jakucs/Galli best papers for European Championship
Ice dancers Hanna Jakucs and Alessio Galli finished sixteenth at the Golden Spin in Zagreb. Their free dance was judged with the seventeenth score, 82.90. Compatriots Chelsea Verhaegh and Sherim van Geffen ended up one spot lower (72.75), so they eventually finished eighteenth. For both couples, this Challenger counted as the third measurement moment for the European Championship. Because Jakcus/Galli were the better ones at all three tournaments, they seem assured of the only Dutch ticket for the European Championship, from 23 to 29 January in Espoo, Finland.
Dec. 1 article on Danilova/Tsiba (there's also some info about Osipova and Epstein in a box):

Cross-posting here from the Swiss Nationals thread in Kiss & Cry...

The Swiss federation's recap today (mentions at the beginning that Lukas Britschgi WD due to injury and Alexia Paganini due to illness) - version in French: https://www.swissiceskating.ch/fr/detailnews/sm-elite-chur
Machine translated excerpt re. the top 5 women:
Livia Kaiser (Dübendorfer EC), despite a lackluster start to the season, has not stopped fighting in recent months to optimize her success curve in competition and exploit the excellent potential of her technical quality to finally win her first national title in Chur. She was a very short head ahead of Kimmy Repond (Basler Eislaufschule) who, after a dazzling start to the season, had to treat a foot injury that kept him away from the ice for a few weeks. Despite reduced preparation, Kimmy did not want to miss her first national Elite meeting and it was, combative and determined as always, that she won the free program event and the silver medal of the championship. Third in the competition, Sarina Joos (EC Zürich-Oerlikon) continues her positive transition to the Elite, always regular and reliable in competition as since the start of the season. Also note the two attempts at triple axel and the 4th place of Yasmine Yamada (EC Zürich)
Just checked the protocols for Yamada's two attempts - 3A< in SP (6.40 BV -2.99 = 3.41 pts) and 3Aq in FS (8.00 BV -2.4 = 5.6 pts).
as well as the 5th place of Shaline Rüegger (EC Zürich-Oerlikon) for her last Swiss Championship in Figure Skating... before starting in Short Track as part of a successful "transfer of talent" within Swiss Ice Skating: she will soon participate in the World University Games Lake Placid 2023 for its last international competition in Figure Skating and the week after, at the same place and same event, for its first in Speed Skating!
Wow, did not know that Ruegger will compete in 2 sports in Lake Placid next month! (I've added this tidbit into the FISU World University Games GSD thread.)

In Britschgi's absence, Sahaka won his first national title in his final Nationals appearance (like Ruegger):
Last national championship also for Nurullah Sahaka (EC Küsnacht) who wrapped up his fine collection of medals in Chur with the one he still lacked on his list, namely the gold medal in the Elites. Author of a remarkable free program punctuated by two triple axel and staged by a work of very successful artistic components...
Arianna Sassi/Luca Morini were the only Senior ice dance team at Nationals (got their Europeans TES minimum scores at 2022 NRW Trophy in November, 6th place).

ETA:

"Izumi talked to Lukas Britschgi in the midst of his busy season. They talked about competing on the Grand Prix for the first time, the process of making his programs, and what other sports he likes to do in his free time.
[Note: Lukas was injured just after this interview took place, resulting in his withdrawal from the National Championships.]" - uploaded by Anything GOEs on Dec. 17, 2022: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAE_xPWaOr0

Reposting these OES news items here (Dec. 3, 2022) - Norway's Mia Caroline RISA GOMEZ, 16 - her ISU bio: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00107882.htm
Congrats to Mia Gomez 🇳🇴 on qualifying for Senior Worlds.
Article in Norwegian about Mia Gomez: https://www.nrk.no/sport/ukjent-16-aring-med-norsk-kunstlopsensasjon_-_-jeg-ble-sjokkert-1.16206014

"I came to the competition without very high expectations. It was a tough competition, but then I skated a very good short program without mistakes. That was a Norwegian record, and then when it was all over I was in first place. I was shocked. I didn't think that I would do so well."
Re. Iceland's Aldis Kara Bergsdottir - her ISU bio: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00107291.htm

She recently announced her retirement.
Machine translation:
Thanks for me. Figure skating has been my whole life since I stepped on the ice for the first time and now after a 15 year career I have made the decision to retire skating.
I am so incredibly proud of everything I have accomplished, to achieve those goals. To be a part of the world the first Icelandic skater to reach minimum goals in the Youth World Championships and European Championships for adults and to be selected Akureyri's athlete for the last 3 years. These are dreams that little Aldís never thought she would achieve❤️
I want to thank everyone for the support over the years, it is priceless trú🏼🥰🥰 I especially want to thank Iveta and Darja for having so much faith in me, without them I would not have a Idrei made it this far and am I incredibly thankful for them. Am also so thankful for mom, Hjalta, dad and Guðrún for being my biggest supporters over the years. Finally, I want to thank the Skautasbandið @skatingicelandofficial Skautafélagi Akureyri @lsa_skautar , Stórfjöllarllarunn m in and friends for all the support. I couldn’t have done it without you all ❤️

Dasa Grm's post after she won her 9th Slovenian senior national title this past weekend: https://www.instagram.com/p/CmWXhFyoLGb/
December 2013 was my first time winning nationals in senior category. 🏆

National Championships always brought me special kind of pressure... First few years it was for the title, even though it didn't decide about who is going to Europeans and Worlds, but still.. Just the title.. (I've been to Europeans and Worlds in 2011 and Worlds in 2012 😉).

And after a few years it was more about being a great role model for youngers... Trying to do my best when they see me skating live, trying to show them that one competition doesn't define you. Trying to use this competition to try something new and to be a really good practice for the rest of the season. 💪🔥

Since 2013 I was on the top.. If it wasn't for covid year (when we didn't hold nationals) this one would be my 10th title. So proud of my long career.. Am I in the best shape ever? Nope. Am I still proud of my accomplishment? Absolutely. 👌🏻✨

And I am really happy to see youngers getting better and better, so there will be someone who will represent Slovenia in Championships when I decide to say my last farewell. 🎉

Margus Hernits (ISU Technical Specialist) was interviewed on Estonia's ERR sports program after this past weekend's Nationals: https://sport.err.ee/1608824398/margus-hernits-praegu-on-meil-iluuisutamises-natuke-kuldajastu
Machine translated excerpt:
Q: What impression did the skaters leave on you? What level are we at?
MH: The level is actually quite good. It would be a sin to complain. We discussed among ourselves that tickets can already be sold for such a competition. No need to organize an open house. It has always been the case that sometimes boys are better, sometimes girls. But now is a bit of a golden age - both boys and girls are at a good, very good level. If you look at other countries in Europe, some would be envious. The situation is different in doubles. We haven't had a pair ride for a while, and the ice dance is unfortunately also out with an injury. But now five plus in solo racing!
Q: How about the level of men? Mihhail Selevko is going to the EC, Aleksandr Selevko has recovered from a post-Olympic injury, Arlet Levandi has his own problems, but the Junior World Cup is on the way.
After all, we have two places for boys at the Junior World Cup. Let's say that two boys with more than one four - there are few such countries. There is some concern about stability - especially the older brother (Aleksandr). If they could do what they are capable of doing in training, then we could talk about both small and, you know, big medals there as well. But yes - the younger one has also developed quite a lot. He used to be more of a jumping machine and the older one could drive. Now the younger one has also caught up. In the case of Arlet, yes... it depends on how the technical side catches up. After all, the performance side is there. He gets marks for that too. A little more stability, but fours are difficult jumps - it is difficult to put many of them in one plan.
Men's recap article (new national champion Mihhail Selevko and bronze medalist Arlet Levandi are interviewed in the second half of ERR's embedded video report): https://sport.err.ee/1608824278/mihhail-selevko-tousis-vabakavaga-eesti-meistriks

Niina Petrõkina, who defended her national title, along with her coach, Svetlana Varnavskaja, and silver medalist Nataly Langerbaur are interviewed in the first half of the same embedded video report: https://sport.err.ee/1608824251/petrokina-kaitses-iluuisutamises-eesti-meistritiitlit
