@Andora it's not about unrequited love though. Scott is basically saying for him and Tessa to have normal lives, successful relationships they have to separate from each other. That seems rather drastic to me and leads me to believe things are a lot more complicated (and that’s not a complete guess on my part TBH). And it’s not necessarily about their partners not understanding. I mean Scott has dated only athletes (minus the beauty pageant contestant) and his longest relationship was with another skater who had an on ice partnership too. For Jessica to be bothered by their relationship too says a lot IMO. It also seems when they had to choose they always chose their own relationship over “outside” ones, but now don’t want to do that anymore.

I think it's really, really sad that the TYCT might be their last tour and that they might stop show skating after that. I mean they have so much more to give to ice dance and I honestly expected them to tour for quite a while. There is so much creative potential and also a lot of money to make for them. Well, good for them if that is what they want but for me, as a European fan who can't just travel to Canada, it's really upsetting that I might not see them live again.

Unrequited might be the wrong word. But you're implying the same old b.s. other over-invested fans do with regards to the "true nature" of their relationship. They've always said it was complicated - I want to say Scott said exactly that on their show in episode 1. That doesn't mean anything more than that.

I think it makes sense they avoided big relationships during their comeback. No doubt they looked back and changed what they could in order to be successful, and outside relationships are a distraction. It worked out marvelously for them, and now they can move on with their lives and other people.

It's sad, true, but they're not young anymore, and it makes sense. This is strictly conjecture, but it seems like Tessa is making a play for a career in TV based on her post-Pyeongchang opportunities. She would lose momentum if she kept pausing that to tour elsewhere.

I just think Underhill and Martini wrote the book for them - they didn't tour a ton as they got further into their professional careers, but they still appeared in competitions and the odd show. Just because they don't tour doesn't mean they won't skate publicly again.

If you think what I’m implying is “same old b.s. other over-invested fans do with regards to the "true nature" of their relationship,” then you really didn’t get what I was trying to say and we can agree to disagree. I just really hate when people try to invalidate others opinions especially as some b.s. when all you’re doing is making assumptions too.

I love listening to Scott in in-depth interviews. He’s just so open and I find what he has to say so interesting. Very nice podcast. It was interesting to hear him say that him and Tessa found it impossible to navigate relationships with others and their own relationship and that’s why they’ve remained single the last couple of years.

Where did he say that Tessa found it impossible to navigate relationships? I only heard him talk about himself.

Same thoughts. I mean other teams doing shows, coaching, making choreo and have families. So one thing i can't get, why making families will not let them to do shows?

I didn’t hear this either? I heard that he wants to move on from competitive skating and focus on family; and that they’ll decide whether they want to do more shows this fall— that decision depending on whether they find doing shows fulfilling?

That is taking what he is trying to express too literally. When competing they spent almost all their time together, in order to be the best. That is fine short term....but not for a lifetime. Right now Tessa is the closest person to him...as a sounding board as entertainment....it is like a mom. There comes a time when a mate replaces to a certain extent that relationship although there will always be that special bond. Now there is time for other things in their life and as well their actual long term goals are different...... They just need space to let life happen.

It seems like people have leapt to some really far-out conclusions that I don't find much basis for in that podcast.

What else is new in this fandom?

I think it's really, really sad that the TYCT might be their last tour and that they might stop show skating after that.

A while ago, they said that they'll be busy touring for the next few years. I doubt that's changed.

I think Scott meant that they were planning on ending their competitive careers with the TYC tour. I'm guessing we'll get a formal announcement after that.

What's with the gloom and doom regarding VM and skating?

Their relationship is complicated, it probably always has been. Then again, which relationship isn't? Tessa and Scott have been skating together for 20 years and made through all the ups and downs it brought them. They'll hopefully be successfully navigating this next leg of their partnership too.

Stop reading into things that aren't there and stop projecting your own fears onto them.

There are still 4 months for someone to perhaps deserve recognition. Of course, I am still gonna vote for VM.
