Gilles and poirier like last year had the free dance of the night its pathetic they don`t have a single world title to show for this quad i mean they beat chock and bates on neutral territory last month at 4cc so there is hope for the olys if the scoring is fair.

I think this is true, and was particularly pronounced with Sounds of Silence. There's a lack of cohesion in the programs because of this. They are fabulous skaters but they have got work to do to make the most of it.
I will say that they did better in this department with Roses and especially Nureyev. They need a program more along those lines for the Olympic season. As you say, Sounds of Silence doesn't lend itself to connection.

In honor of the return of the Olympics to Italy--the scene of one of the most memorable/notorious ice dance events in history.

The Dance Hall 2025-2026:
DARE to Top the STARE.

(I should have more time to think later, but Mom & I were discussing this title over lunch).

As I said on another thread, Gui/Fab really need to do a tribute program to Skary Babs’s death stare. :D

Perhaps Babs could give them her failed Prince of Egypt FD ?I don't know what they need but perhaps going back to classical is the best thing.

I don't know why we're talking as if Barbara's team alone should be tasked with the challenge of besting her iconic moment. It seems obvious to me that a discipline with the likes of Madison Chock, Piper Gilles, Olivia Smart, Guillaume Cizerone, Zach Lagha, etc., plus all the athletes' coaches. Really this season should be capable of giving us a STARE topper. All we need is some competitive motivation.

I'm still of the opinion the one thing the robot program needed was to keep the sexy, flirtatious relationship from the original exhibition program. (Obviously, it couldn't be done in the same way; but the program still could have had the relationship--something that always got a great reaction from the audience).

I disagree. That's a lane that few are really successful with and nothing they've ever done in that wheelhouse has ever stuck with me as memorable. I don't know that they need a character-driven program, but I do think they need something that sets them apart from the rest of the field. They have personality and I'd probably lean into that by finding something from Gershwin or some of the other Tin Pan Alley songwriters. Get the audience energized and engaged - smile & have fun.

F/G have to go Italian. I wonder what music they could use that was at the top of the charts in Italy from the '90's.

They were so charming in their FD from the first year they won the GPF, but teams usually want to make a Statement rather than risk light. If they choose opera, they don't have to choose the ubiquitous Turandot and Tosca arrangements, though.

The 1990 World Cup was in Italy and the official song is technically from 1989 but was number one in Italy for 12 weeks in 1990! Barbie girl was also a huge hit in Italy!

I bet any of you a drink in Milan it will be an Italian opera.

Of course they HAVE to go Italian. Why would they ever stray from what at least 1/3 of the field in Milano will ALSO go with? If they do, maybe they go with something like Pagliacci rather than Turandot or Tosca.

Yeah, but most teams' idea of Italian is Mambo Italiano. They get to do Pagliacci only if they do the duet between Nedda and Silvio :grope:

L'elisir d'amore has the gorgeous Una furtiva lagrima plus a lot of upbeat music, but that's probably too light. Bellini's Norma has swoon-worthy music, but it won't get the crowd on their feet. If they have to pick a tragique warhorse, I hope it's La Traviata.

Someone has go to do a program to Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma from the concert for the Torino Olympics, but not an FD.

Well for the non-Italians, Walking on the Sun came on my playlist driving home and I immediately thought it would make a great RD.

I wonder if the music that the Tragically Hip wrote specifically for Kurt Browning, Antares, is available for anyone else to use. No lyrics so that might be a plus.
