Thoughts since the energy level was insane that night and I didn’t want to be typing away between every skater.

Pinzarrone has the most absolutely glorious program, shocking that it’s Richaud. I said it at Skate America and I felt the same again here.

Samodelkina is going to be up at the top very soon I think. Technique is good, she holds her landings, and she’s unique with her choreography and general approach to the programs.

I love Julia Sauter. She has a 90s quality and I mean it in the best way. She was having disaster practice sessions and was even crying at one point, so I’m happy she more or less kept it together even if the free skate didn’t work out as well.

Spours bombs into everything, maybe even moreso in the practices. Big, big jumps and very fast. Not refined in the slightest but that style is missing as of late.

Schild is really trying to improve. She might end up somewhat lyrical after all.

I love Sakamoto but the free skate is just too frantic. She’s pumping and gaining speed and doing this weird fist thing way too often. Her gala skate showed she, too, can hold lines and not look like a rushed mess.

Levito’s basics are so nice. I know I was the person really harping on her bad halting technique on the lutz and flip a few years ago and I don’t think it’s improved at all, but it doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the program for me. And wow, she’s really turned into a stunning young woman.

Kurakova had a good skate for her standards, but she’s regressed beyond belief and I think her skating may have looked even worse live. Total mismatch of programs. Amodio was sitting behind me the other night and I really wanted to ask WTF Cats was all about.

I got my friend who’s a newbie fan to watch the top five women and give me her ranking.

she ranked them:
1. Alysa
2. Kaori
3. Amber
4. Mone
5. Isabeau

she thought Kaori would’ve won but was very pleasantly surprised that Alysa did. she also really liked Isabeau’s costumes and was appalled when I said that FSU by and large didn’t like the shade of green for Isabeau’s FS dress and the whickety whack. she thinks you should all be more accepting of whickety whack
I totally agree with your friend! Isabeau's dress was very pretty to me & unique. It looked even better up close when you could see the individual flowers. It looked like a piece of art.

I loved the colour of Isabeau's dress but I would have liked something other than the flowers. I think they kind of messed with her proportions. A bit top heavy.

I think on another skater it might be really nice, but it overpowers Isabeau, and that color is all wrong for her skin tone. If she was going to go for something that bright, she needed some bronzer to pull it off.

I'm with your friend. Whoever said I should fix Isabeau's styling would be disappointed. Isabeau has had terrible dresses for years, but this year, she looks elegant.

Regarding Isabeau's dress... I'm with those who think the flowers on top make her look top heavy. She's a lovely, HEALTHY young woman with some curves and adding the extra flowers on top accentuates this in an odd way. The flowers also didn't really fade & trail away to the green all that well, which made the contrast jarring to my eye. I didn't hate the green as a color and I don't agree that it was an unflattering color on her complexion. If I'd been designing the dress, the simplest fix, which I think would have made the dress a hundred times better would have been reversing the skirt & bodice. Plain, simple green with some minor crystals in various shades of green on top with the flowers on the skirt, going from a smattering around her midriff and gradually filling out & covering the skirt for the last 4-6 inches. It's all about finding the balance & this dress has always felt imbalanced to me.

I think Richaud has glimses of great choreography. I love his work for Adam, I loved Kaori's Olympics programme. He really is talented, but he sometimes gives programmes to people that feel mismatched (but would work on another skater).

In any case, I'm happy to have him give Nina Pi her Olympics programmes because those two really work well together.

It was my favourite women's programme by far.
