I am pretty confident in saying that there is absolutely no other skater on earth that could make me enjoy a program to that Masquerade music. 😂

Yuzuru Hanyu is truly a magician!

Yuzu talking about his pursuit of 4A while training on his own. It's quite YIKES  and also quite unsurprising...
"If I can get 1/8 more rotation, I can land it. I’m certain. I have really tortured my body to get this far so I am sure damages have been piling up. I had decided earlier on that if I could land this by February, I would do this at Worlds 2021. I was trying to get there as though my life depended on it. This is why I haven’t done any other jumps. I have only been working on my Axel, sometimes working on this for 2 hours straight on. The average time I spend on this though is usually 45 minutes."
(source for translation: https://twitter.com/Iron_Klaus/status/1376166142100770818)

He also says that securing 3 spots for Olys and not getting c*vid were in the forefront of his mind and he ”wasn’t really thinking too much about how to win versus Nathan.”

His beautiful gala performance is on YT.
That's a concern that he has "tortured" his body. This could result in his not being able to skate to his highest ability at the next Olympics. I wonder why sacrifice for a quad axle, except that he would be the only man to be able to land one in a competition and he already has 2 OGMs.

Yuzu participated in Dreams on Ice show on 9-11 July, there were four shows in three days. He skated to his exhibition program 'Masquerade'. He skated the programs with 3A, 3F and delayed 1A, all of them beautifully executed. I loved his mature performances of this program. Here his performance from Day 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UifSp2vT5Tw

Huge and effortless triple Axel: https://twitter.com/RlKABOT/status/1414103036679557121?s=20

Fans say the delayed 1A with both of his hands up in the air without holding them should be called the 'hanyu Axel' :)https://twitter.com/tegomass/status/1413736034907602947?s=20

Interview with Yuzu from DOI (thanks to the Axel with wings for the great translation):
Some parts from it:

Interview after DOI. "For me, I think 4A is the last dream of my life as a competitive skater. I will achieve it with everything that I have." https://twitter.com/flowerforyuzu/status/1414268229707386886?s=20

after two OGM and three (?) world titles, numerous GP medals, where can Yuzuru find motivation? The 4A has been his dream. Even if he does not land it, he will have the satisfaction of giving it his best shot. All the best to him.

Agreed, he's very much a goal setter and once he has accomplished it, he finds a new one. A quad axel from him would be the perfect way to finish his stellar career. I only hope he remains healthy and can achieve it.

IMHO Yuzuru came back for another OGM in 2018 (despite injuries) for possibly two reasons-

His OGM winning LP in 2014 was not satisfying because he made two major mistakes.

He was very young in 2014 and in 2018 he wanted his peak ability as his OGM. It was a miracle that he did it despite his injuries.

He May have other reasons but I cannot read his mind. :)

An interview with Yuzu has recently been published in Waseda University's E-Style Book, which was translated to English by Axel with wings team (many thanks to them for providing a translation ! 🙏) The interviewer is Professor Nishimura Shoji from the university.

Yuzu talked about why he chose Human Informatics Sciences, what he found difficult while he was studying, how did he manage his time for studying, why he liked programming (he even made a program that calculate the highest possible scores of skaters ;)) & bioethics, and he also talked about his graduation research which is AI in figure skating.

It was very interesting to read, he has a great mind.

Yuzu skated to White Legend (his 2010-2011 short program) and Hana Ni Nare for the 24h TV charity show today. He's been part of this event since 2014 and the show's aim is to raise awareness for the disaster stricken areas in Japan. Since this year marked the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami this event was even more special than the ones before.

Yuzu skated beautifully to both programs, I love the maturity, elegance, and finesse he skates with. I loved the effortless 4T with the spiral out of it, it's the first time he did it I think.

Here are his whole segment (White Legend starts at 08:00 minute mark, then Hana Ni Nare comes after that) https://vimeo.com/590482217/4cc0a05f38

That was really lovely! Beautiful skating and I loved Yuzu's facial expression!

Any news on his SP and LP in 2022?
At DOI in July he said that he plans to keep his FS and has choosen a new SP music but not finished the program by then. Translation of the interview is here: https://axelwithwings.com/2021/07/1...u-hanyu-dreams-on-ice-day-1-interview-210709/ (Many thanks to the wonderful Axel With Wings team!)

There was also an interview in the DOI booklet, that I translated automatically with deepL. Here is the part about his new SP:
"Q: If you can tell us about your plans for SP, please let us know.
Hanyu: First of all, I want to make sure that I succeed in my SP, because I can't talk about it unless I have done so. It may still take some time, but I want to use all the knowledge and wisdom available to me, and keep challenging myself. For the short program, I want to make it a unique program as 'Yuzuru Hanyu'."

I haven't heard any news about his programs since then.

Only 13 days until the first practice of NHK Trophy, when we'll finally know more about Yuzu's new SP :cheer2:

A short message from Yuzu has been recently published ahead of NHK Trophy: https://twitter.com/__pino_____/status/1451501926701416451?s=20
Translation of the message by lae on twitter (pt1, pt2):

his goal is to jump the 4A & to skate the SP and FS to the ideal he's been aiming for in competition. He's been practising the 4A this whole time, that you could say it's a jump that you almost can't compare with last season. Adds that he thinks he's been able to do 4A practice that allows him to properly succeed at it and feels he's finally been able to pull together the form he should aim for and the things he needs to do and thinks there's a little left to do

Quite a lof of new commercials lately but this one with ANA is just adorable and fun https://twitter.com/ANA_travel_info/status/1453889323221204996?s=20
Translation again by lae:
I have surpassed many versions of myself. I overcame many walls that stood in my way. If so, I can only be excited. In the blue skies, on my way to meet you.

A quad axel would be amazing to see! I think he can do it, but I'm scared he'll injure himself and end up retiring from skating.

As fans we are understandably concerned about the possible injury by attempting a quad axel. From Yuzuru's perspective, I suspect he needs a challenge to motivate him. He has achieved everything else that he wanted. May be he doesnt mind taking a big risk now. Of course we want to see him skate for years, with or without the quads.

I was afraid for something like this, knowing how hard he was pushing himself. However, this isn't his first rodeo, and I know that they can manage it so hopefully he will be at full health by the Olympics. Best of luck and speediest of recoveries to him!
