Tanabata Trophy was also held on 1st August in Sendai, Miyagi-prefecture. It's also a competition where Lv6 juniors can earn minimums for Regionals.

*Skaters from Tohoku area (Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Yamagata, Miyagi and Fukushima) are allowed to participate in this competition. Shame, only five Lv6 ladies participated, tho. Miyu Morimoto (1st, 60.99) and Yumemi Katsunaga (2nd, 57.58) got the minimums. Congrats to them!

Interviews with Nakamura and Takeno who won Iizuka Trophy (=Kitakyushu Open Competition)
(my rough translation)
Hina Takeno (Sr ladies winner)
If you ask me whether or not cheers give me power to do my best, the answer is yes. I re-found I used to be encouraged by the cheers. (*This competition had no spectators.) At the same time I'm thankful that organizers did their best for holding this competition. Talking about my goal of this season, Universiade is scheduled next January (in Switzerland), so I'll try my best to go there.

Kosuke Takeno (Sr men winner)
First of all I'm thankful that Iizuka trophy could happen thanks to everyone who supported this competition. Usually lots of skaters, including Sr men, participated in this competition as well as stands used to be full of spectators, but this year we had no spectators. When I made a mistake, cheers often gave me power to stay strong. But this year we couldn't expect that. So I tried my best to stay strong on my own.
(He graduated from his university this past spring. He continues competing with working at Iizuka Ice Palace as a part-time job.)
Unlike until the graduation, I shifted my main weight from studies to skating. Now I'm living my life focusing only on skating. Shame I was not able to skate my FS at last season's Nationals, but, if I keep focusing only on skating, I'll be able to do better than last season. While I was originally planning to retire last season, I can spend one more year as a skater, so I hope I can enjoy every competition as well as my daily training.

I love love love that Mai is back.
Lovely reactions after both, SP and FS.
Stunning FS dress.

She still looks scary thin to me, I just hope she is fine so far.
I don't care about 3-3 at all!
Welcome back Mai!

IIRC 18 skaters can win through to Sectional. Marin is 9th today. So it's not difficult for her. I read an article that she dislocated her (right?) shoulder a week ago. Wish she'll recover by Sectionals. The article said she plans to do only double jumps in tomorrow's FS.

Yaaaay, Nagai did a nice 3Lz today!! She looked wonderful. BTW, she announced this is her last season. She'll graduate from her Uni next spring. She has already found her job to do after the graduation.

Suits her so perfectly!

I read in a comment that Marin submitted exhibition music and didn't have a copy of her LP on hand (or that they didn't allow her to switch it), so she had to make up an entire program to different music. I'm sure it was just skating through the music to match the La La Land choreo, but that's still pretty impressive.

No, this was not her LLL choreo she was skating to.
