I agree with you and think that’s probably going to be the reality.

Once I am done with A Million Little Things I think I am going to start with Star Trek: Lower Decks. I think I’ve watched one or two but I’ll start at the beginning, I guess. I’m assuming I can’t just pick it up with the new season…

I just picked it up this season after the Lower Decks/Strange New Worlds crossover and I'm doing okay. Now I had watched a few partial episodes here and there when Mr. Mac was watching it so I knew the premise and a few characters. But the crossover is what got me interested.

It took me a while to get into Lower Decks, but now I really like it. I think it's got better as it's gone along, and as a long time Star Trek fan I love all the self referencing that goes on.

And the crossover was awesome.

On a completely different note, I've finally got around to finishing episode one of Yellowstone (I started it and had to bail part way through so I had to start again). I've already seen 1883 and 1923 so I'm watching them in chronological order.

Hopefully the strikes will be over soon or else there may not be much of a tv season.
I think it may already be a bit late to prevent that from happening. Even if the strikes ended today (and they won't).

According to what I read, Labor Day was the deadline for studios to be able to produce a shortened season that starts mid-season. Since we're past Labor Day, I don't think there's going to be anything at all.

It's insane, if you think about it. Also according to what I read, the demands would cost the studios something around $210 million over three years (unless I misunderstood and it was $70 million for three years and not per year) and Warner Bros. has said that they estimate a loss of $300-500 million for this one season. Who's doing the math at the studios because they need to be fired.

One of the aspects I liked about Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" is that it was a very personal story. Tom Cruise is NOT the ideal father but this becomes an intimate tale about trying to save his children. I am now binging "Invasion" on Appletv and I am enjoying this for the same reasons. We don't see a lot of aliens. We see that people are under attack and confused about what is happening and this becomes personal stories centering on four people and their survival: A boy in England, a Japanese woman who is a brilliant space agency employee in Japan, a soldier in Afghanistan and a mother trying to hold her family together in the USA. I completed the first season and am starting on the second.

Ooo, that does look good, even if it is a mash-up of Poe stories.
The premise of it looks quite intriguing to me. And I've always been a Carla Gugino fan. I don't think she gets enough credit as an actress. One thing I noticed... is it just me or have Bruce Greenwood and Sam Neill morphed into twins? I honestly thought that was Sam at first.

Yes! I thought the exact same thing. At the beginning of the trailer, I thought the actor was Sam Neill. Further in, I realized he wasn't and had trouble placing the name. I was always the kid who would read the Edgar Allan Poe stories in the school lit books, so this intrigues me. I pegged The Raven and Masque of the Red Death. The Wikipedia article links to many more.

Mike Flanagan strikes again. I loved The Haunting of Hill House and, to a lessor extent, The Haunting of Bly Manor. Many of the same actors in both, and I see some in this one as well - his wife Kate Siegel, Henry Thomas, Carla Gugina and Annabeth Gish.

However, unlike Hill House and Bly Manor, this one looks a little too bloody for me.

Not a series, but the documentary "Harley and Katya" about the Australian pair skating team is on Netflix. Definitely not upbeat: a reminder of how brutal this sport we love can really be, beneath the rhinestones and snarky commentary.

I just watched it too. I knew nothing about them. I was even at that Skate America in Vegas and I don’t remember that free program whatsoever. So sad.

MCU stuff:

1) Loki season 2 will now be released October 5th
2) Echo will now be released in January 2025 :(
3) A Ms Marvel season 2 will depend on how well the movie does.
4) Visual effects workers have voted to unionize
5) There is talk of Marvel making the seasons of their tv shows longer. I hope they do.

I'm looking forward to the miniseries Fellow Travelers with Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey. Release date is the 27th October. Thankfully Paramount+ Germany is going to carry it, so I will be able to watch it :cheer2:

Only today heard of the Chowchilla school bus kidnapping. So being me I searched YouTube and found a made for tv movie. All I can say is yikes! I was these kids age in 1976 and if that had happened to me I would have gone nuts! And I’m not even claustrophobic! There is a ton of really old cheesy made for tv stuff on YouTube. The name of the movie is “They've Taken Our Children: The Chowchilla Kidnapping”.
