In the HBO special of Diana, William and Harry said Diana used to get a kick out of dressing them in the most archaic Downtown Abbey way.

I kind of wonder if we'll ever see Charlotte in pants. I've only seen her in super-girly dresses.

William and Kate on their way to church with the Queen:

Apparently they are also hosting a house party for Kate’s birthday.

Edited for spelling

Mia Tindall wasn't there to steal it :D

That is a gorgeous picture and Mia was so cute holding onto the handbag. Hopefully the Queen can get an updated picture with all her great grandchildren at some point as there are an additional 3 of them now!!

Didn't the BBC also decline to televise Eugenie's wedding, but ITV did televise it? Or am I remembering this incorrectly?

Yes. That is correct.

ETA: ITV have now declined to televise the wedding.

Pretty sure he will.

ITA. Prince Andrew attended church at Sandringham and he spent Christmas on the estate with his family, albeit 'under the radar.' He's still Beatrice's father and she surely loves him and I would expect that he will still walk her down the aisle (in private).

Didn't the BBC also decline to televise Eugenie's wedding, but ITV did televise it? Or am I remembering this incorrectly?

Yes. That is correct.

ETA: ITV have now declined to televise the wedding.

It's the media and broadcasters making all the fuss over this. All we've officially heard so far AFAIK is that Beatrice wants a more private wedding and that it's expected to take place in early June, although the exact date and venue has not yet been announced.

The public obviously will not be allowed access, unlike at Eugenie's wedding. It was Prince Andrew who pushed for the televising of Eugenie's wedding. He's always wanted his daughters to be given more public roles as part of the firm, while Prince Charles is known to prefer downsizing the royal firm and streamlining the number of family members on the Civil List.

Since the heightened negative publicity surrounding Prince Andrew, the royal family has surely had no intention of either expecting or allowing Beatrice's wedding to be televised. The public and media will be lucky if we get to see the release of official photos. If we see any photos, they may only be of the couple and not include Andrew.

H&M 6 week sabbatical in Canada must be coming to an end soon. I’d like to see a photo of the 14 million dollar mansion they were staying at.

FYI: A former property listing--

The Sussexes are surely back in England. It was announced today that they will be visiting Canada House tomorrow...

Harry and Meghan visited Canada House:

And not a reflection on H&M, but I do wish people would just say “thank you” not “would like to thank.” The Buckingham Palace press off should know better. Kensington Palace also often uses that annoying phrase. I guess I am old fashioned, but it seems to me if you “would like to thank” then you should do just that.

:drama: The Sussexes "want to thank..." as in their desire is to thank the Canadian people and Canadian officials for their holiday hospitality, by visiting Canada House in London tomorrow.

The announcement was released today, the in-person thanking will occur tomorrow (as I previously posted). On Commonwealth Day in March 2019, M&H made a prior visit to Canada House ahead of the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

"I want to thank" has become a more formal way of thanking. Like think of how many awards show speeches start with "I want to thank my agent ..."

ETA: I have always disliked televised royal weddings, although I watch them. I find them intrusive. Weddings should be for family and friends, not the public.

Ha! I’ve ogled that house before. My ex-husband’s grandparents lived not far from it.

^^ Yep, @made_in_canada, there are many reports of how welcoming and laid-back Canadians are in that region. Some of the neighbors later discreetly spoke to media who were poking around for details. I'm linking the below article because it contains additional photos (despite the fact it's poorly written seemingly by a non-English speaker, or else poorly translated). I don't trust everything that's being said, of which some is second and third hand or entirely made up. Suffice to say, the Sussexes enjoyed their much needed vacation time.

Meghan starred in two Hallmark romantic comedies filmed in Vancouver, Dater's Handbook (2016) and When Sparks Fly (2014) during hiatus from Suits. She remarked on her former Instagram how much she enjoyed those experiences and the gorgeous Vancouver setting. Surely it brought back fond memories for her to return to the area and spend quality time with her immediate family (Doria, Harry, Archie) and her closest friends (two of whom we know spent time with them are Janina Gavankar and Abigail Spencer).

I suppose residents of northern Washington state take the opportunity to cross the border often for hiking excursions and scenic vacation travel. :)

The Ugg booties Archie wore in the scenic photo with Harry had been gifted to the Sussexes in Australia during their South Pacific tour. Archie's knit cap with pom poms, and his cute jacket also have lovely back stories:

Yep, I just don’t like it. It sounds pompous to me. Like I said, nothing to do with H&M specifically, I have noticed W&K use it and many others. It is right up there with using “myself” instead of “ me” or “I”. Now I find the misuse of “bring” rather than “take” grating so clearly I am terribly intolerant :biggrinbo

bc I have no life ... I spent some time on KP and TRF instagrams and did notice how often they use it. As well as Sussex Royal. But ... aren’t royals not supposed to directly thank? Like they’re royal so if they thank someone it’s showing that they’re not entitled to it? Or is that an antiquated rule?

in other news my co-teacher has a business partner who got knighted by the Queen. He only got to meet Willam however but said William was very nice and not “Royal” at all.

I have always disliked televised royal weddings

 Good for you. Since I've enjoyed reading about and following British history and the British royal family for many years, I happen to enjoy watching televised royal weddings, just as I now enjoy learning more about QE-II's coronation, which was the first one ever televised. On Youtube, there's the actual b&w coronation, as well as a documentary about the behind-the-scenes planning and mishaps. I've also learned a lot and I've had a blast watching all the BBC documentaries about British castles and mansions, their history, family ownership, provenance and rigors of upkeep in the modern world. Below are just a few:

Windsor Castle: A Royal Year

*Secrets of Althorp: The Spencers (featuring Diana's brother, Earl Spencer) *Just added, I forgot to include earlier

Secrets of Chatsworth (home of the Dukes of Devonshire)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rw54CrzpR-4 (there may be a better copy of this on Youtube)

High Stakes at Highclere (home of the Caernarfon family, and site where Downton Abbey was filmed)

Inside Britain's Super Rich Longleat Estate:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMLWf1Zyd_k Ep. 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Df7rErNiw Ep. 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8qL7Fl2CEQ Ep. 3
The first episodes in this series about the Earl of Weymouth, his wife Emma Viscountess Weymouth, and the Longleat inheritance were filmed prior to her first pregnancy and difficult birth which was covered in the third episode. They subsequently had a second son by surrogacy:

Here's a brief follow-up on the Weymouths and Longleat, in 2018:

Growing Up in a Stately Home

Treasure Houses of England: Harewood Court

More views of Harewood, built upon the slave-owning wealth of Edwin Lascelles, 1st Baron Harewood
QE-II is related to the Lascelles family via the marriage of her Aunt, Princess Mary, to Henry Lascelles

Highgrove House

Country House Rescue: Elmore Court

Lucy Worsley is known for presenting a number of historic documentaries about British monarchy, country houses, castles, British cultural traditions, etc. Here's a partial playlist:

There's a fascinating book entitled Victoria's Daughters, by Jerrold M. Packard. Perhaps this 2-part documentary was based on the book:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tysr2GAGeBQ Pt. 1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYnZKKthfmo Pt. 2
The Sons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-dv3SNSzkg

Anyone who doesn't enjoy royal weddings can skip these :p

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htSvZDvIf5I Royal wedding dresses: a history

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUfwpU2B7qg Beautiful British royal brides pt.1
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4xtVgK8A6A " " pt.2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsWb4W22Jl0 15 most expensive wedding dresses of all time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyC4KO_uXtM Top 10 ugliest wedding dresses

Bottom line, the history of royal families and of aristocratic/ upper-class families is fascinating and larger than life. It tells us a lot about human and cultural history, wars, the building up and toppling of nations. It can be a soap opera as well as providing insight into human nature and family dynamics. Why do you think Upstairs, Downstairs and Downton Abbey were such runaway hits for Masterpiece Theater?

ETA: Moreover, it was Queen Victoria who started the trend for brides wearing white. In addition, there's so much about the Victorian era that continues to inform subsequent centuries (good and bad). Some fascinating facts about British royal weddings I discovered in these books:
Five Gold Rings - A Royal Wedding Souvenir Album: From Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II; and
Royal Wedding: The Souvenir Album
, by Alison James.

I would love to see Princess Beatrice's wedding televised, but I totally understand why it will be kept low key and private, as opposed to Princess Eugenie's nuptials. In any case, since Princess Beatrice with her big eyes looks a bit like her historic namesake (QV's youngest daughter), it would be rather historic to be able to see Beatrice's wedding take place in living color and to see her be the focus (not her father) while walking down the aisle in a gorgeous wedding dress. Sigh...

Here's rare footage of Queen Elizabeth II in her own words talking about what matters most to her -- duty and service above all, family, and her love for animals:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh1-9ww_HmM "Continuity is very important... It is a job for life..."

While I'm sure there are many Washingtonians who enjoy crossing the border into BC for hiking vacations and scenic travel, there are just as many opportunities for amazing hiking and scenic travel in their own state. And I say this as a native Oregonian who thinks that Oregon is the most beautiful state/province in the PNW! We are really lucky, in our corner of the world, to, basically, have it all.

First thing I thought of when this was first mentioned, how they do it on awards shows all the time. To me, saying it like that makes it more about the speaker than the person being thanked, which kinda supports why royalty and movie stars do that.

Is there any such thing as discreetly speaking to media?

I seriously doubt that anyone who's ever used the phrase has put nearly that much thought into it. I never have, and I'm a writer/editor who makes my living obsessing over the exact right way to use words. :)

To me "thank you" is what you say when you're communicating directly with the person, and "I would like to thank" is more appropriate when you have a larger audience and the message is more indirect.

Prince Charles is coming to visit us later this month:

CP Mary and the kids have relocated to Switzerland for the upcoming school term:

Ah true, true -- an oxymoron. ;) Therefore, I should rephrase that when asked by prying media, the locals spoke up even at the same time wishing the Sussexes a peaceful, secure and relaxing vacation. Even the cafe owner who initially said they rejected giving the Sussexes a reservation due to their security needs, wished the Sussexes privacy at the same time she was revealing their Canadian location. :p Likely, the cafe owner partially spoke out for the publicity she thought it might provide her establishment, little realizing she would also be generating a bit of bad publicity in some respects...

Details of the Sussex visit to Canada House today, as written on a Meghan fan blog ran by a woman who also has a Kate fan blog: https://madaboutmeghan.blogspot.com/
A CBC report of the visit with royal reporter, Omid Scobie:

Additional video of the actual visit and tour of the Skawennati artist exhibit:

Yep, definitely. There are so many wonderful, scenic regions throughout the U.S. Even in my state of Ohio, there's so much history and actually so much to see and to learn that can't be included in one lifetime. :)

The beauty of our natural resources is one more reason why it's crucial for more to be done about the damaging environmental effects that are increasing as a result of climate change. We can see it in the dying off of certain insects as their habitats are destroyed, and in the drastic weather changes and natural disasters occurring on a more frequent and heightened level, among other incidents...

Reportedly, the Sussexes privately visited the Hubb Community Kitchen ahead of their visit today to Canada House. I have been trying out recipes from Meghan's first project, Together: Our Community Cookbook, which makes a great gift, btw. So far, I've used the Green Omelette recipe a lot, and recently I tried making the Spiced Potato Kibbeh (a Lebanese/Middle Eastern/North African dish). Yum! Of course, we can google such recipes too and find variations. Still, I love looking through the Together Cookbook and planning my next cooking effort, which will probably be Iraqi Lamb Croquettes, but I will use ground turkey or chicken instead of lamb, so Iraqi Turkey Croquettes. :) Also, I want to try making Mahamri (African Beignets), a light, fluffy bun that goes well with jam or with anything.

I often substitute ingredients. For example, I have largely cut out onions and garlic from my diet, so I substitute fresh or bottled chopped chives instead of onions, and I'll use celery or celeriac root, and/or carrots in place of garlic, and squash instead of eggplant. Also when cream or whole milk is called for, I generally use coconut cream and almond or coconut milk. I also use gluten free stone ground grain/beans for all-purpose flour; and brown rice flour, etc. Bobs Mills is a brand that makes these specialty flours. I sometimes use butter, but I'll also substitute with ghee instead (a clarified butter which originated in ancient India, and is healthier). Ghee is rather expensive, but worth it.

For desserts, I'd like to try the Cardamom Bread & Butter Pudding, and the Carmelized Plum Upside Down Cake. :D In addition, today I heard about the Nanaimo Bars served at Canada House for M&H, which they enjoyed during their vacation visit in Canada apparently. The ingredients sound delicious: layers of chocolate, custard, coconut & water, and wafers. Here's an online recipe that apparently uses graham crackers instead of wafers:
