Did we ever figure out what happened with Smirnova and Siianytsia not competing at Skate America?
Not that I'm aware of. We'll see where they compete next.Did we ever figure out what happened with Smirnova and Siianytsia not competing at Skate America?
It’s probably just because I haven’t tried very hard, but since they changed the nationals qualification structure, I’ve found it impossible to follow. USFS could be drawing names out of a hat at this point, for all I know.
On the JUNIOR side - there's only one team that has a Bye to Nationals (JGPF qualifiers Smith/Deng), but with only 9 other teams, it seems apparent that Smith/Deng plan on using this as a tune-up for the JGPF. Presumably, if all 9 of the remaining teams meet whatever TES minimum set by the USFS, they will all qualify for Nationals.
Here's the list of SENIOR teams that have Byes to Nationals (Top 5 at 2022 Nationals, JGPF Qualifiers, and 3 Int'l Assignments):
*Baram/Tioumentsev
*Chan/Howe
*Knierim/Frazier
*McBeath/Bartholomay
*Mokhova/Mokhov
*Plazas/Fernandez
Would you care to provide the senior TES min so that we know which of the 9 teams competing for the 6 open spots actually meet those?Juniors do not have TES minimums for Nats.
Only seniors do.
Very minor detail, but so far, the reason for Knierim/Frazier's bye is being on 2022 World Team.
(I get that they also are expected to qualify for GPF.)

Do you want me to go back and edit my post?
I was just scrolling through my IG and saw that. The pic was taken last Friday during their showcase. It does seem to confirm that Kam/O'Shea are being allowed to compete despite not qualifying for a bye to the Pairs Final. Here are the WASA pairs competing at the Final:

Thanks! I think there was some question as to whether or not the TES min was different from last year.Per TN 285, re 2023 Nats: Scores from this season from any NQS event, U.S. Pairs Final, and "any ISU competition" count.
SP and FS minimums do not need to be earned at same competition.
SP 22.0 and FS 40.0
No worries. It's partially my fault since I keep forgetting they didn't compete at Nats last year. Not necessary, as far as I am concerned.
And I did not mean to offend.
I acknowledged that it was a very minor detail.
If I was US figure skating I would let them do whatever they want if it meant they kept competingI don’t understand what the fuss is. 99.9% chance they will be the national champions which rarely ever go to 4cc anyway, no big loss if you ask me
I’ve gotten more or less used to that 4CC is where skaters in third and fourth or fifth place get the chance to compete
Agree. As long as they compete at Worlds and we, hopefully, keep 3 spots for the following season, I'm a-okay with KniFraz skipping 4CCs. Same with ChoBat in dance for that matter. Three spots aren't in jeopardy for 4CCs in either pairs or dance since there aren't enough teams outside of the US & Canada to warrant limiting the field beyond the TES mins.If I was US figure skating I would let them do whatever they want if it meant they kept competing
Yesssss... That's my point. The US doesn't NEED KniFraz to compete at 4CCs to ensure we have 3 spots next season, however we do need them to compete at Worlds to ensure 3 spots next season. So, if they told the USFS they had no interest in competing at 4CCs but would rather be allowed to make money doing the Art on Ice shows, I'm sure the USFS was all "fine by us, as long as you do Worlds."Everyone gets 3 spots at 4CCs. It doesn't depend on the past year's results.
And one of the comments says “Can’t wait to see you in Austria” so they must be going to Ice Challenge.
Ice Challenge doesn't have a pairs competition - not as a CS nor as a regular senior B.
Well, seeing that the Pairs Final schedule lists 12 senior pairs and 10 junior pairs, I don't think any of them are competing in Austria, unless they're doing the Pairs Final and flying immediately to Austria.Skate Austria is hosting an international called "Ice Challenge Next Gen" in conjunction with CS Ice Challenge. Senior Pairs are on the schedule as well as Junior Women, Men, Dance, and Pairs. If Kam and O'Shea are competing there, that sidesteps the problem of not obtaining an NQS score/not qualifying for the U.S. Pair Final. It also grants them a conflict bye to Nationals.
(Conflict byes still exist. The only announcement of that was a block of text when you logged into Members Only stating that the intention of the qualification rule changes didn't include eliminating conflict byes - can't ask athletes to be in two places at once - and conflict byes would continue to exist, but due to the number of committees who have to vote on the qualification document, the written document wouldn't be updated...)![]()

And still no start orders. There were 12 Senior Pair entries on the day that the public tentative schedule was made. There are currently eight Senior Pair entries.
US Pairs Final Start Orders are finally up!!!
…..
Yes, their first post about the Pairs Final has 5 teams and mentions that their Intermediate team (Grohne/McPike) are missing. But, I believe the pic with 5 teams is from their Blades of Glory show on 10/28 and also includes Pauline Irman/Ben Jalovick - who are competing for Switzerland).Kam/O’Shea were in the IG photo of the pairs going to the Final so this is surprising. I hope there wasn’t an injury.![]()
No, Pairs and Dance have a combined final qualifying competition for Nationals instead of competing in smaller fields at each Sectional. The US Pairs Final is being held in conjunction with Midwestern Sectionals for singles and the US Ice Dance Final is being held in conjunction with Eastern Sectionals for singles this year.I think you mean Sectional finals….they still have National finals at Nationals in January, yes?
I am truly out of it, dealing with USFS changes since COVID. I’m just trying to figure out. Apologies for idiotic Qs.
Ok, I think I get it. So it’s a non-sectional all-in-one final. A final before the final-final at Nationals!Yes, their first post about the Pairs Final has 5 teams and mentions that their Intermediate team (Grohne/McPike) are missing. So far, they've featured Hanns/Neudecker, Williams/Lewer and Flores/Wang in their Pairs Final daily countdown.

So - no Digerness/Sadusky, Kam/O'Shea, Romero/Ogren, Smirnova/Siianytsia or Wessenberg/Eisenach (and, of course, PlaFern and the Mokhovs have byes) - of those teams, the only ones that I think would get a bye are Smirnova/Siianytsia.
