2025 Skate America location/dates

I really hope it's not Lake Placid. I went in 2017, and although I live in NY, getting there from downstate is a PITA. Especially now that Amtrak no longer runs the shuttle from Westport, NY. There is one bus that goes there 1x day from Port Authority bus terminal and is nearly 7 hours. Unless I can get friends to make the nearly 5 hour drive from downstate, the travel would make me think twice. It also can snow up there as early as October, in 2017 it was held Thanksgiving weekend and it was so cold the bugs were indoors and on the ice (as someone mentioned upthread). That was gross.

There are only a handful of restaurants near the Herb Brooks arena and were packed to the gills and even ran out of food at one point.

We will know for sure the location by the end of this month at the latest. In the meantime it's fun to speculate. (My vote is still for Baltimore).

Maybe USFS will make up for dumping FL for Nationals last year and put it there? I know that would make some people happy. Although mid-October is still the tail end of hurricane season.

Cannot verify but I heard some people gossiping in Boston saying possibly the Pacific northwest (specifically Everett and, I think, Tacoma(?) were mentioned). Nothing about what the said made me believe they had inside info, so that's why I'm labeling it just as gossip.

If there's a home football game, Vegas hotels would be crazy expensive that weekend, probably even the dreary Orleans.

I'd love it if it came to Everett or Kent. I'd willingly drive that far for the weekend - and probably ask my mom if she wants to go too - though she might be going back east next fall, so who knows.

Since Isabeau Levito is a Jersey Girl, I'm (STILL) hoping Skate America makes a 20-year reprise appearance in Atlantic City!!

Reprise appearances in Hartford, CT, or Reading, PA, would make me happy also!

Your thoughts...
I've been to all of those SA sites. But not Reading, PA. It was cold and rainy. My friend and I had to go to the Dollaar Store to buy a king-size blanket which we draped over our seats to wrap around us! Hartford is 15 minutes away, but I'm not hopeful.

The ISU just announced new dates for Skate America: Nov 14-16. This may be why USFS didn't already announce the venue--because they were waiting on this. Skate America and GP France are switching places on the GP schedule this fall.

Slightly off topic, but I thought Angers was out, and the FFSG was planning to find another city for a three-year rotation?

Can’t imagine they will go for lake Placid in November, already snow season up there and it’s a drive from the nearest airport.
IIRC, in 2017 they had SA in LP over Thanksgiving weekend. In 2009, SA was in LP the second weekend of Nov (the week after I broke my leg, although I didn't have SA tix anyway).

I really hope SA is not in LP. I can't believe that in the entire country, there isn't another small-ish arena available that is within a half hour or so of a major airport. Have it at SCOB if need be.

If it’s convenient, I might think about going now. I decided several years ago was no longer going to go unless I just happen to be in the same town. I felt like the fact that it was the first event of the season meant we got a lot of programs that just weren’t finished.

There are lots of places available. There are not a lot where they’re going to pay US figure skating what they want. Couple of years ago I read the bid application for this event. It’s hysterical

Hmmmm....moving dates makes me think that they are trying to go to a stadium affiliated with a minor/major league hockey team and will be doing the event while there is an "away" series for the team.

Not that this would narrow the possibilities down much, but makes me think LP is not it. LOL.

I feel like Finland is the place to be for American seeded skaters who can’t stand another minute of crazy uncle at Thanksgiving. What a great excuse.
Except that would give them less than a week at home to get over jetlag and prepare for the GPF before flying halfway around the world in the opposite direction.

Bummer, I’m leaving for Germany after US Thanksgiving so not sure I can swing both. Was hoping for the usual October slot.

They're going to stick it in Lake Placid and stick it to all the fans and skaters who have to travel 100 hours to get there. Guess I'll be missing only my second SA in the past 20 years. Both in Lake Placid in November.
Well at least it won't be Thanksgiving weekend this time if true. I'm looking into Cape Air if it's there. The planes are small but only takes 2 hours from JFK as opposed to 7+ on bus. Then an Uber or Taxi from the airport.

Sadly my wish for Baltimore is out, there is an event at the CFG Bank Arena that Friday.
