FRIEND!!! :cheer: I love that you love The Rookie too now! I think with the shortened season due to the strikes they had to condense things down a bit more than normal so hopefully with a more 'normal' season 7, they can go back to what has always worked so well for them with the patrol stories. Excited for what's to come with this show! :cheer:

Chenford lived up to the hype!! 😍😍

I decided after watching "Patrick Melrose" that Cumberbatch has to be one of our greatest living actors and he has done nothing to change my mind. And he's great again in "Eric." Good cast, good plot, good mini-series....

Agreed. On all counts. I don't think I've ever seen him phone in a performance. Ever. He always throws himself into it, even when the movie itself is subpar (yes, Zoolander 2, I'm looking at you).

The Tony Awards are on tonight on CBS/Paramount with Pluto streaming the earlier awards that don't make it to network television.

Coming to the end of Season 10 of Seaside Hotel on Prime. Love this show. Having to rely on subtitles is not a problem. Any other good summer holiday shows? I'm watching Hotel Portofino and have seen most of Death in Paradise until they replaced the last lead actor, but would love to vacation vicariously in another fictional show!

ETA Season 10 is the final one for Seaside Hotel.

I was NOT a fan of S3 of Bridgerton. To me, the show has jumped the shark.
Colin is one of my least favorite Bridgerton so that didn't help. I was much more interested in Francesca's story. And not just because I don't remember the courtship and marriage with John happening in the books. It seems like she was married "off-screen" as her book starts with
the death of John and is about her romance with the man who will become her second husband

Boy, I thought Bridgerton S3 was awful. The first four episodes were OK, but the last 4 were a total let down. So many things were done poorly.

S2 has been the best for me, mostly because I thought Jonathan Bailey was (IS!) amazing. I'm so happy he's doing so well.

I haven't read the books, and I still have 2 or 3 more episodes to watch.

I don't find Colin expecially interesting, but I am interested in Penelope, so there's that.

During the scene when Lord Debling was wondering about whether there are books (love stories?) about a man who is constantly traveling and a woman who stays at home waiting, I was so expecting Penelope to answer something like "Yes, there are. And in the most famous such story, the name of the wife is in fact Penelope."

Surely Miss Bookworm Featherington has read the Odyssey.

But the conversation didn't go that way.

She's my favorite. Eloise was my favorite in the books but the tv show is showing me her flaws more clearly.

Benedict is my favorite male Bridgerton and I'm excited that we'll get his story next (or so I read).

Also, there was a scene where I couldn't help thinking "Don't you know that what you're doing right now can
make a baby
?"

It seemed maybe Penelope didn't know. But Colin must know, and he should care. Or if he doesn't care, then he loses his likability.

He will be in the film version of the Wiz with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as well as the next movie of the Jurassic Park franchise! He started as a ballet dancer and sings too! So talented!

I copied this from another site. This is what I liked and disliked:

Liked:
  1. The Featheringtons. I love this family. They're messy but they're hilarious. Philippa squealing about the bugs is the type of endearing character quirk so missing this season. Polly Walker is the greatest.
  2. The friendship between Lady Danbury and Violet continues to be amazing. They're very different people, but they support and understand each other, and give each other grace. It's wonderful. Get your garden watered Violet.
  3. The old set. Golda, Ruth, Adjoa, Polly. They are treasures who make every line count.
  4. Nicola Coughlin. The amount of times she saved a scene with her emoting was incredible.
  5. The development of Cressida. I felt horrible for her. Her abusive father, Eloise ditching her, her attempts to gain financial independence by saying she was LW. I felt more for her than I did for any of the Bridgertons. I hope she has a good time in Wales with her aunt.
  6. The wedding music. "Yellow" and "You Belong With Me" are exactly the sort of love anthems the string quartet rocks.
The bad:

  1. Colin, all season. Writing for Colin was just all over the place. First he's a rake, then he's the sweet Colin we all loved, but mostly, we didn't see him except when he was drinking and boning. Honestly, if it weren't for the relentless fanservicing during the promos, I forgot this was Colin's season. Luke and Nicola's chemistry was also lacking (for me). During the mirror scene all I was thinking was really "wow, Nicola does have nice boobs". It wasn't hot.
  2. Benedict is Bi. Ok that's ... fine, if a little fanfic-like. But there was no development other than he saw Tilly kissing a hot guy, and he caught feelings. Honestly, all the scenes with Luke T felt exploitative. Like the writers couldn't come up with anything for Ben other than "he's hot, he's bi, look at his biceps."
  3. The makeup and costumes. Omg. From Regency-fabulous in the first two seasons to the women being dressed in sparkly polyester prom gowns with clown makeup (the rouge in the wedding scene looked like two red blobs on the womens' faces) all season. It was ridiculous, and took me out completely.
  4. The inconsistency regarding a woman's honor. So the first two seasons being alone with a man was A Big Deal, to the point where Simon was challenged to a duel and Kate felt like she had to run away to India, but in S3 Colin and Pen are just boning in an empty house and fingering in carriages without being married? That's not really swept away by passion, that's just disregarding the world-building.
  5. The Michael/Michaela gender bend.
  6. Kate and Anthony. I can't believe they swept them off for a second honeymoon, had them come back for a hot second bc Kate was pregnant, and then wrote them off AGAIN to a trip to India while Kate was pregnant? Does anyone realize how difficult trips to India would have been for a pregnant woman in those days? Anthony missed Francesca's wedding and the fallout from LW? Wtf? It really does seem like Jonny was only on set for maybe a week tops and they shot all the Kanthony scenes separately and greenscreened the rest.
  7. Eloise. To build her up so much the first half of the season with that Cressida friendship, only to have her recede in the second half of the season. Bleh.

I also liked Francesca and John. But I totally agree on the bad in canbelto's spoilers above. So much bad. I'd also add:

  • The Mondrich subplot. Too many people in the series.
  • The very unsexy sex scenes in the second half of the season.
  • Violet's love interest. Could've lived without him.
But the worst really was the writing for Colin. Just terrible.

He did care. He said that he would still marry her because they had boned.

More stuff:

Benedict is Bi. Ok that's ... fine, if a little fanfic-like.
Wasn't he attracted to some guy in the books? They never state he's bi but it was strongly implied. IIRC. It's been a while since I read them. Or maybe I was just projecting at the time (of reading)?

Violet's love interest. Could've lived without him.
In the books, she doesn't start looking around for love until all (most?) of the kids are married off. It's too soon IMO for this storyline. And it's not like we needed more storylines in Season 3.

If I hadn't seen this Bridgerton spoiler on Twitter I don't know that I would have caught on to what was happening

When Francesca met John's cousin and got all flustered. Do we need another bisexual Bridgerton? Or maybe Francesca is just straight up lesbian since she didn't seem that physically attracted to John. Either way, doesn't seem necessary. If they were going to make another Bridgerton gay/bi it seemed like Eloise would more fit that role.

I didn't catch that either. I am in on my favorite Bridgerton being pansexual but we barely know Francesca and nothing in the books would indicate this makes sense.

I read that the showrunners want to introduce more queer themes. I'm good with that. But I think it shouldn't all be Bridgertons. Mix it up a bit.

It seems like next season will be Benedict's and I am hoping that Sophia ends up being Asian. There are hardly any Asians in the show and they are pretty much all background characters.

Maybe we need a thread all about Bridgerton and it can include spoilers so every post doesn't have spoiler tags. What do people think?

I actually enjoyed season 3 overall, although I found it a bit rushed, with too many interconnecting storylines and characters introduced that didn't really go anywhere. They tried to pack too much into eight episodes. Although considering that S4 isn't coming until 2026, it kind of makes sense to try to give fans as much to speculate on as possible during the long wait. It's still annoying.

I didn't realize that The Mole was back on Netflix. I liked the show when it was on network TV (but not the celebrity version so much). I am also enjoying The Traitors - I've seen all the US, UK, NZ seasons and the first Aussie one. About halfway through Aussie season 2. Cannot find access to the Traitors Canada though.

It airs on CTV in Canada which can be a colossal pain to access sometimes. Streaming it would be on Crave I'm guessing since Crave and CTV are both owned by Bell.

Canada has very different licensing for distribution of shows. TCM schedule will often have a movie listed that gets replaced by something else in Canada for example. The Traitors Canada appears to be restricted for showing outside Canada.

Have you been watching the new The Mole? I’m loving the new updated versions.
