Maybe the events could be held in a rink located in a very isolated spot with no-one around except the cameras, like way up north or something. :cold:
There's a rink up in Churchill :EVILLE:: Town Centre Complex, Churchill MB
The Town Centre Complex houses a health centre, high school, library, swimming pool, indoor playground, curling rink, theatre, hockey arena, gymnasium and fitness centre. Interior walkways, lit by overhead skylights, are lined with brightly coloured Inuit wall hangings and prints, and a big carved-wood polar bear invites children to slide through his benign mouth.
The skaters can warm up running from the polar bears.

It would be very expensive to get skaters to Churchill - I grew up in Northern Manitoba Canada, not too far from Churchill. Air Canada, which gives flights to skaters SFAIK (correct me if I'm wrong), does not fly to Churchill. The airline that flies North in Manitoba is ridiculously expensive. I assume skaters would have to fly out of Winnipeg.

 I wasn't being serious (although it is intriguing to think about). It simply wouldn't be feasible to move that many people to such a remote location. If Skate Canada is held without spectators, I suspect it will be moved to the practice rinks at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in Mississauga.

I could see this happening. I looked at the TD Place website the other day and there is nothing on there about Skate Canada.

To be honest, I don’t think we will ever see an end to this YKW. The US is out of control and I would not want the border to reopen just to accommodate the skaters

Yeah, you're totally right. We will literally never get this pan-demic under control. There will never be a vaccine. Sports will never happen. It'll just be a pan-demic forever.

No one has suggested that borders be open to accommodate skaters and no one thinks the pan-demic will end before this fall. The ISU document says that skaters should participate within their own countries or where boarders are open. There are plenty of skaters training in the US.

Well, TBF, a few have hinted at it. :D

As far as C19 is concerned, the experts do think it's a disease that probably won't die out. But we should get to a point where we can live with it. Because of vaccines, better therapeutics, and other things, it will eventually become like the common cold or one of the seasonal flu viruses all of which are not deadly enough to shut down society. You can read more about it here:

Yes, but endemic is very different from pan-demic.

Oh definitely.

In a recent interview with Bill Gates, he said he thinks things will be back to "normal" by end of 2021 for the rich countries and 2022 for the poor countries. (Not counting economic recovery which will take years. About 5 he thinks.)

I think this season of skating is kind of toast. We will have some skating but much less and watered down. But I think next season should be fine in the sense that we'll have all the normal comps and then the Olympics in 2022.

I guess we'll see.

He seems to have a sense of humor about that. I didn't realize he had one (a sense of humor) TBH. He always seems so serious.

I actually do think, of anyone, he does know what he's talking about because he talks to EVERYONE. Not just the people running C19 response in one country or two.

I'm sure he has his biases too. But the analysis seems sound and the dates seem reasonable to me based on what has gone on so far.

ISU Communication No. 2341 (Decisions of the Council - International Figure Skating Competitions season 2020/21) was published by the ISU on Aug. 10: https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/...mpetitions-world-standing-points-and-tes/file

Further to ISU Communication 2339 (Decisions of the Council August 3, 2020), the Council herewith clarifies that same as for the Challenger Series in Figure Skating season 2020/21, the holding of other International Figure Skating Competitions during the season 2020/21 will most likely be complicated and if held, only be accessible to a limited number of Competitors. The Council therefore decided that for the sake of fairness and related to International Figure Skating Competitions, no World Standing/Ranking points will be awarded and the scores obtained by the Competitors shall count towards the Minimum Total Elements Scores only if the respective ISU Rules (Rule 420 and ISU Communication 2303) are respected.

The Council furthermore reiterates that, as stated in ISU Communication 2332 and 2339, the Council decided to keep the same Minimum Total Element Scores necessary for participation in the 2021 ISU Figure Skating Championships and earned at competitions in the season 2019/20 and in the season 2020/21 as approved for the 2020 Championships. However, the Council at that time also indicated, and herewith reiterates, that in case that due to the COVID- 19 pandemic an extended number of International Competitions will be cancelled during the fall of 2020, that the Council will review the situation in regard to the Minimum Total Elements Score again latest at the time of the October Council meeting.

Well, he did appear on an episode of Big Bang Theory once, so I figured he had to have something of a sense of humor.

Antarctica has no ********* cases at the moment. Oh wait, they want to keep it that way. Also no skating rinks.
Actually there are Rinks in the Arctic though ;) , my daughter lives there in Nunavut and they have a rink as she’s the coach of the speed skating club and she’s a former figure skater too! They have no Covid there but also nobody is allowed in (fly in only) lol .

A bunch of Senior Bs have just been added to the ISU event calendar - open question as to how many of them will actually run, though. Some usually have junior competitions attached to them too.

And Nebelhorn's entry page is up, though unpopulated as yet, along with other Challengers (entries by name aren't required for Nebelhorn until about 26 or 28 August, but they must have had enough countries submit planned numbers to know that it's viable for them to run the competition).

ETA: LOL. Hard to say if it's the lurgi or just bad planning, but the Winter Universiade, Bavarian Open, Euros, Dragon Tophy and Tivoli Cup, and Reykjavik Games are all within the same seven-day span: 25-31 January. There's not usually quite that much overlap..!

Finlandia Trophy is cancelled

Damn. I was worried that might happen when I saw the news about tightened restrictions on the Guardian liveblog last night. :( Not sure the virtual version they're proposing would be feasible at such very short notice.

That is an extremely European list of entries ;) is there anyone representing a 4CC country other than Perticheto?
