^^^ We should probably create a Denis Ten memorial/tribute thread - I had thought about bumping up the GSD one from 2019 again that I posted in last year (there's an old Fan thread in the Trash Can that perhaps can be converted?).

Re-posting from the 2023 Canadian summer competitions thread in Kiss & Cry...

'Anna' Tzu-Han TING (TPE), who is 17 now and currently coached and choreographed by Joey Russell in Toronto, won her Senior SP & FP groups at the Skate Ontario Sectional Series July comp.! :)

I'm optimistic that she is on track to get the SP TES (32) she needs for 2024 Worlds. Her TES in Friday's SP, for reference, was 29.78 (30.41 in her 2022 Worlds debut).
Her "Crimson Peak" SP from Friday's livestream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNcmwM9dHqA

Anna's post today: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cu__hJ3L2tp/

Joey Russell posted an IG story last night that said he choreographed both of her programs in the past 2 weeks that she has been in Toronto!
Her ISU bio is updated with her new program music: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00108222.htm
SP: Crimson Peak [2015 film soundtrack] by Fernando Velázquez
FS: Sherlock Holmes (soundtrack) by Michael Price, David Arnold

Comment from last night's play-by-play thread :D:
We have Sherlock Holmes with voiceovers!
ETA credit to @Seerek who posted this in an earlier OAS news thread (April 2018):
I believe I am the first to post about Chinese Taipei's Tzu Han Ting (12), who landed 3 salchow - 3 toe combination in the free skate en route to winning advanced novice division at Rooster Cup [in France] last week.

Richard Kam has retired from competitive skating 😭, per Instagram post today from joint account of his (former) Team New Zealand dance partnership with Charlotte Lafond-Fournier.

Although she had added herself to icepartnersearch quite a while ago, I think today's post is their first official announcement of the end of their partnership?
Until today, I had been holding out hope that Richard had not ruled out the possibility of a new partnership, but of course wish him well in future endeavors. 🤗

Excerpt:

" Charlotte will be looking to continue her skating career, so please continue to support her and her journey!
Ricky has retired from competitive skating and will look for new beginnings.
❤️ "

Li Yu-Hsiang from """""""""""""Chinese Taipei"""""""""""""""" aka Taiwan won Asian Open's junior division 🎉🎉🎉 We will be seeing him at 4CC, where hopefully he'll be getting senior mins (I think he's age eligible for seniors - and he was very close to getting senior mins here in both programs, despite junior tech requirements in the LP).

He needs to get 4CC minimums first. They must be achieved in an international Senior competition.

Oh god lol. Well hopefully he'll be sent to a small competition. I guess he could have just competed in seniors here, but they didn't bother, or they don't plan on doing seniors this season.

Yu-Hsiang will focus on JWC 2024 (to be held in Taipei), most likely. As for Sr. man, Chinese Taipei will have Fang-yi Lin, who has got very close to 4CC min., and he trains in Beijing.

Kazakhstan's JGP assignments have been decided -

Interesting that Samodelkina is only doing one JGP instead of two seeing as she beat her two nearest competitors by 20+ points at the Summer Championship of Kazakhstan this week.

I'm sure if she medals and has a chance at the final they will give her the 2nd spot.

Donovan Carrillo will skate for XXII Hielojuegos nacionales 2024 in Puebla (9/24-9/25), Mexico.
He will compete (according to the above IG) at 8:30PM on 8/24 (I assume this is SP) and 9:20PM on 9/25 (FS) (the time is local time).

There is a live stream:

ETA: The link for live stream has changed. (you can still watch him - he skated at the very end)

Brazil's Lucaz Trindade was given lots of praise by Ted and Mark in his 2 Junior Grand Prix's in Czechia and Turkiye, noting that the ice surface he usually trains at in Snowland in Gramado (southern mountain town, 1 hr north of Porto Alegre) is perhaps 1/8th of an Olympic sized ice rink (and apparently, he can only really train on weekends).

In June, his team attended the camp at Shattuck St Mary's in Minnesota (headed by Polina Edmunds, Surya Bonaly, among others).

I saw him in person in Ostrava, and agree with the praise from Ted and Mark - love his lines and his rotating position is tight and jumps clean. Really wish he could have more time on a full sized rink to be able to skate free and get his speed up. I think he could be really good if he had a proper training environment.

Tzu-Han (Anna) TING (TPE), who already has the CTES minimum of 90 for 2025 Worlds, announced on her Instagram on Oct. 23, 2024 that she “will be taking a break from competitive skating for an indefinite period of time” (she recently moved to England to begin studies at the University of Leeds :respec:):
Her only competition this season was CS Lombardia Trophy in Septembeer: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00108222.htm

One more for today ... re-posting here from the ISU Championships Minimum Combined Total Elements Scores (CTES) thread that's pinned at the top of GSD: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...tes-and-multiple-entries.111935/#post-6665638
Gian-Quen Isaacs of South Africa achieved the minimum for Four Continents at the Diamond Cup [for her FS TES].
She's been training at IceLab in Bergamo this season with Ondrej Hotarek: https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00103298.htm
Isaacs' coach in South Africa, Megan Allely, competed internationally for RSA from 2001-2006: https://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00006067.htm

Rafael Arutyunyan about Samodelkina:
A figure skater who recently joined the Kazakhstan team went to the USA for a training camp with a coach.
"Sofia did come for a consultation; she spent almost three weeks with us. We got to know each other, and I gave her some initial recommendations.
But if we're talking about long-term work, this is a project that won't be quick — it will take more than just one year. If her federation is willing to commit to that, we're open to cooperation; our doors are not closed. However, if they think Arutyunyan can quickly perform some miracle, it's better not to pursue this at all.

This will require a fundamental change in her approach to training. It's one thing to work with a young girl who can perform jumps, and a completely different thing to coach an adult athlete whose mindset should be structured differently. She definitely has many strengths. She knows how to compete, pull herself together, and perform at her maximum. She's a real fighter, managing jumps that others might not be able to save. She has unique abilities — otherwise, would she have made it this far? But there's a problem: she hasn't been trained to have a long-term career in sports. A complete reset is needed because her career was almost over, and then suddenly, there was this unexpected new turn. Now, she has to decide what to do next with her training and her body. Is she ready for this? Only she and her team know the answer."

Isabella Gamez/A. Korovin's current CTES minimum score of 81.10 is still short of the 88 required for 2025 Worlds but Korovin's Philippine citizenship looks almost certain now (Dec. 3, 2024):
The Senate on Tuesday approved on third and final reading a bill granting Philippine citizenship to Russian figure skater Aleksandr Sergeyevich Korovin.
Senate Bill 2461 was approved with 21 affirmative votes, zero negative votes, and zero abstention.
The bill naturalizing Korovin as a Filipino is being pushed amid the Philippines' preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympics in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
