We never hear or Jennifer Robinson or Steven Cousins

Are they still skating?

They were my favourite skaters at Mariposa

Robinson took a lot of slack because she skated so slow but she had some really nice qualities to her skating. Her 2000 Worlds long program, on a night full of disaster skates and otherwise lousy programs outside the top 5, was really nice, as was her 2002 Worlds long (7 triples, not necessarily all clean but that was her strongest program). IIRC she was a little bitter at 2003 Worlds after she dropped so far down after the QR (2nd place in her group) and then even with decent skates in 2004, she wasn't a threat for the top 10 and was only named to the team after Cynthia Phaneuf's team elected that she go to Junior Worlds instead.

But considering the shortcomings to her skating technique, finishing in the top 10 at Worlds three times and getting a top 10 placement with solid skates in SLC was a great accomplishment.

I was recently having a conversation with a co-worker about the Ottawa valley and he had mentioned that the city slicker figure skaters had moved back to his small town a few years back. I had a feeling it might be Jennifer and her husband as he was always in the local paper so everyone in the Eganville area know who they are.

That article was fantastic! I particularly liked that she compared herself to a journeyman. I was always a fan of hers and while she wasn't the most talented skater on the world scene, she always fought back and her grit and determination was something I had admired.

I wish she would have continued with broadcasting, I quite enjoyed her point of view at the Vancouver Olympics.

^^^^^ Thats what I thought too.... But as I just saw in another thread where I shared my thoughts about uncomfortable programs there are some people in the forum who (I wouldn't call it shade) just come off as superior to other posters. It cracks me up cause Ill throw the complex (I call it hypocrisy) right back at 'em.

I do have a soft spot for Top Ten Jen! Her free skate at the 2000 World Championships was a wonderful moment for Robinson and her team.

^ I was always pulling for Jen Robinson. :cheer2: So glad that she had the opportunity to skate in SOI. We enjoyed her very much in the US tour (especially for her program "Show-Off" from "The Drowsy Chaperone").

Jennifer was a beautiful skater and prob.the last woman of old style Cdn female skaters. If you think the jump is not going to work perfect you turned it into a beautiful single . With the way points were awarded at the time maybe it was the smartest thing to do.When Rochette first came into prominence she was popping a lot as well but then changed over to going for the rotations even if she ended up on her butt. This definitely was the time when we started producing en masse good jumpers.

I would love to know what Rochette's secret mindset was, from being an outstanding yet inconsistent skater, to becoming a World and Olympic medal winner. I loved her skating.

Interesting that Jennifer's name has popped up, since I still think Michelle Leigh held her back to an extent (similar to what's happening w/Alaine Chartrand at the moment, as discussed in the Canadian Ladies thread).

I'm actually surprised Jennifer hasn't opted to take on a more prominent role at Skate Canada in some capacity (perhaps when the children get older).

This does bring up a related question w/what the heck is going on at Mariposa anyway? Without Julian Yee, would there be anybody headed to Pyeongchang?

(and kudos to the crowd in Nagano for giving a standing O to Jen even though she was in an early flight. Even then, Japanese crowds were among the most knowledgeable and supportive).

Any one know the reason Robinson's husband was fired from the Mariposa club? He used to be a fairly successful coach there at the national level.
