I suppose it's possible that Skate Canada could replace Schumacher with Ruiter, but that isn't usually their style and pretty much all the skaters ranked in Ruiter's range of the SB Top 75 received at least one GP assignment.

I'm of the opinion that, if she wanted to skate senior internationally this fall, she'd have gotten an assignment. She's ranked 58 - the only skaters ahead of her who didn't get GP assignments (and are old enough, or not retired or not Russian/Belarusian) are C. Kim, M. Kim, and Clare Seo - who are all destined for the JGP based on their summer competitions. Below Ruiter - women who got GP assignments - Andrews 60, Daleman 62, van Zundert 65, Brezinova 66, Sumiyoshi 67, Ji 68, Zhu 69, Serna 70, Sauter 72, Peltonen 73, Saarinen 74 & Schumacher 75. Of the skaters ranked below Ruiter - Shabotova is no longer representing Ukraine, Repond looks to be on the JGP again, Ziegler & Wang - could be in the mix for the SkAm TBD or skating JGP again, Kisel is from Belarus.

Ah, beginning of the season! I'm gonna take this as a nice start for Makita & Gunara, as they're in the mix. (Also tied with Lauriault & Le Gac for the highest footwork levels. Very nice).

Other than the fall on a (fully rotated) 3A, Matthew Newnham had a very solid and polished skate to last season's Rachmaninoff SP music. Conrad Orzel's basic skating is already showing marked improvement, and there's more fluidity in his body movements. He was seemed relaxed and positive in the K&C, so possibly Ravi is re-working his jumps.

No. Ruiter had to withdraw from Challenge (Senior) last December 2021, reportedly due to a leg injury, as was posted here: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...-news-and-updates.108318/page-10#post-6127938

So William Oddson still is competing in singles (Senior Men) in AB after he and new partner Marianne Hubert just received their first JGP dance assignment. ETA: Oddson competed only in the SP at Wild Rose.

I continue to be impressed with the changes in Conrad Orzel's skating and presentation. Not a perfect program by any means, but he just looks so much more comfortable and relaxed. His FP music is a Rolling Stones medley. There's improvement in the speed of his spins, his knees are softer, he's making better eye contact with the judges/audience and even did a tiny bit of chair dancing in the K&C while waiting for his marks to come up. Hopefully some of these changes will be maintained when he gets to more important competitions.

Also very much enjoyed Matthew Newnham's FP to "In This Shirt". He's really a lovely skater, with nice carriage, lines, and stretch, reminds me a little of Roman Sadovsky. The program opened with a fall on a 4T attempt, but the rest was fairly clean. He might be one to keep an eye on if he's ever able to conquer the big jumps.
