The ‘’90s are when I listened to country music because so much rock and pop sucked. (Sorry, older millennials.). And country music does not lend itself to ice dance, although if someone could get the rights, Garth Brooks’ The Dance would be lovely.
I now have images of line dancing to Achy Breaky Heart (which I thought I'd blocked out of my elementary school memories) on ice, and hankering for the days of 1998 Riverdance.

Junior worlds. but official news is still coming out after Boston.
And Patterns: Quickstep & Rhumba
Quickstep for senior? Rhumba for junior? And will be an actual pattern with key points for the seniors or more of this current BS?

I don't know what country music you were listening to in the '90s, but... 1) that was the best era of country music (along with the '00s), and 2) there is plenty of great country music from that era that would be amazing for ice dancing. George Strait, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Martina McBride... my list is very, very long.

And no way would Garth Brooks release the rights for any of his music, which is an absolute shame because his catalog has so many wonderful songs ("The Dance" wouldn't be allowed, though, since it was released in 1989).

I will cringe at and mute any team that uses Macarena. I hated it already in th 90s.
I suppose if Rhumba is the pattern, teams could use Ricky Martin and have a Latin inspired RD?

Uhm….Shania Twain would like a word… :drama:
If the ice dancers let me down by not skating to Shania Twain like they let me down by no one skating to Never Gonna Give You Up when the theme was 80's I will be so annoyed.

From This Moment On is perfect skating music and that's just one of her songs.

Not country but I will uber anyone who skates to an Eiffel 65 medley.

What on earth gets into them when they're making these decisions? Do they hate the choreographers?
And the fans?

Junior RDs look so much more cohesive than seniors with 2 rounds of the same pattern and no choreographic step sequence on the short axis that destroys any flow the seniors achieved. So let’s take the RD that’s working and make it worse. :blah:

Oof. That’s a French idea of country music (John Denver, GMAFB) and dance. Similar to Americans using Jacques Brel, doesn’t translate. I hated that dance.

What country-themed program has ever scored well in dance? Judges have hated them in past (see, e.g., Belbin/Agosto, Hubbell/Donohue, even arguably LeGacs this season).
The judges have no taste.

But, I also think that most of the "country" themed programs we've seen in the past have been hokey, bordering on ridicule. Belgosto's "Green Acres" program was pure schtick. Les Gacs wasn't country, it was spaghetti western soundtrack, which is completely unrelated to actual country music.

There are a lot of great country waltzes, quicksteps, etc which would lend themselves to beautiful skating programs, but most of the choreographers, skaters & coaches really don't have much knowledge about the genre & certainly don't listen to it as a choice, so what little we do get of country music in the sport is completely limited to stereotypes & not much else.

IIRC, B/A’s original music had more Appalachian bluegrass but TPTB made them change it to be more accessible hokey. I think there’s some concern that country music won’t resonate with European and Asian judges and also a perception that country/western music is low class.

“Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under…” with “From This Moment On” would be epic.

I hope SOMEONE is reading this who can make this happen. :40beers: :cheer2::lol:

There's also tons of great alt-country artists like Neko Case and KD Lang's early cowpunk and Toronto's The Sadies. Alt-country music might be way of avoiding the really corny, hackneyed country programs of the past (although I don't trust most choreographers to know what to do with the genre). And I agree that a country waltz would be way cool.
