I do miss the draws. I don’t think it’s fair like it the worlds or Olympics or other events that the best skaters go last so audience members can show up later on as well. I like it when it was an actual draw. For me it always made it more exciting that way
Somehow seems prejudicial.

The thing about draws was that it was exciting to me. However, it really sucked when your fave got a bad early draw and their closest rival got a great later one, haha.

For big competitions, for the SP, I wouldn’t mind the compromise where the top twelve in the world standings have a random draw for the last two groups or top 18 have a random draw for the last three groups depending on how many groups/competitors there are.

I think the draw trauma was mostly having all the good skaters spaced out. That's a lot of online results refreshing for several hours in the era before live streams.

But yes, it was easier to wuzrob the earlier skaters. "They had to save room for Skater X!"

Whether the skaters are in the first group or in the latter groups, they are going to be known by the judges as the heavy hitters and there's likely going to be a boost there anyways. Skaters who used to draw first in large events typically got stuck in the median score situation when it came to 6.0. Now we see skaters moving way up after the SP, and that includes skaters who don't even really have PCS on their side. Top skaters can throw in a few half-assed moves in the field and score higher than skaters with more complete programs, but start order is not going to change that phenomenon.

For television and audience energy and overall excitement, I don't mind reverse rankings at all even if the rankings themselves don't always make sense.

Oh, I skipped straight to the LP where she had the “talent” of drawing first for the final group.
Yes, 1998 and 2000 Worlds (and the 1998 Olympics) weren’t the best draws. 2001 Worlds was pretty good though, right before Irina. She had a great draw in 2002 Olympics (and Worlds!) but we saw what happened there. Maybe it would have been better had she skated after Irina.

Cougar Gracie  I love it!
Exhibition to Madge's "Madame X" tracks?
I was thinking Gracie and James could do an exhibition number together where she is dressed in animal print and they skate to Mrs Robinson from the movie THE GRADUATE.

I never understood the idea of people turning up until later in an event. I mean, you've paid for your ticket. What else could you possibly be doing instead?

It's so disrespectful to the skaters, and certainly annoying for other viewers, when they have latecomers climbing over them to their seat.

Sightseeing? Commuting from work? Fulfilling family or other obligations? Eating dinner instead of arena food? Socializing with friends you only see once a year or less? I don't think anyone should be climbing over others while skating performances are going on, but I also don't see any problem with people skipping part of the event. E.g., I don't have any interest in the first groups of ice dancers, and I would not subject myself to anything close to 50 junior ladies as some of the JGPs have had. I do the same thing with concerts. I will skip the opening acts if not of interest to me.

Great job Isabeau finishing a close second in her senior Grand Prix debut short program to the current World Champion. I’m excited to go on her skating journey with her. At 15 she is just getting started!

I say send her to Jeremy and Massimo Scali and let them improved isabeau's speed and skating skills like they did with Alysa. And find someone to work on her jump technique.

The jumps still need work, but I will say I thought (from a TV perspective, at least) that there was quite a bit of improvement in her speed and basic skating over last season. It’s the first time I’ve seen her this season, and she looked more senior-ready than I expected.

I have to say, I am super impressed by Isabeau’s consistency. There aren’t a lot of skaters who handle competitive pressure as well as she seems to, at least performance-wise.

Sure if you paid for the ticket you can go to any part or not for any reason.
Me? When I have the rare opportunity to see FS in person I’m take in every second possible. Even if it’s not my favorite discipline. Note: I’ve been able to work out not missing work so that helped.

Thank you @DreamSkates

I certainly don't have money to burn, and would relish seeing every second.

Maybe if Louis was ironing their laundry at home with the event playing on TV in the background and friends drop by unannounced, I would understand.

Considering the big bucks it costs flying, paying for accommodation and buying actual event tickets as well, surely everyone could arrange to meet for dinner afterwards instead. Especially, if they knew how important it was to the person attending the event.

I know I feel be a bit pressured and conflicted if friends decided that they absolutely had to catch up in the middle of competition.

Back in the day when skating was rarely shown on tv and I would videotape everything I could, even if a friend telephoned, I would let the answering machine pick up. In those days without the likes of Youtube and streaming services, you only had one chance to catch it.

I'm guessing you'd be one of 'those' people browsing on your phone at the theatre during the middle of a show as well.
