From what I understand, 2023 Wild Rose is going to be in Leduc, AB and is currently scheduled for Aug 4-7 (I plan to be there this year!).

Interesting competition, very strange to see the skaters going through their SP elements to random and and um, quite varied? selections of music. Of note, Wesley Chiu made a credible attempt at a 4lutz (i.e. at least looked like he had a rough idea of what he was supposed to do ), and completed a solid 4sal - 2toe combo. Liam Kapeikis was a bit short on his 4toe attempt, but completed a very nice 3A.

A few comments/thoughts from yesterday - Uliana Shiryaeva seems to be a fairly solid techinical skater, a little weak on the PCS side, but that's not enormously surprising given she just turned 16 a few days ago. Here is her ISU bio (obviously will need to be updated]: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00111180.htm. The version of "Kissing You" used in Wesley Chiu's R&J SP is by Sam Smith. I quite liked it. Very pleased to see Davey Howes with the group from the Connaught Skating Club following the departure of his coach Kevin Dawe from Skate Winnipeg. His new SP to "Bella Ciao" by Manu Pilas looks like it will be a lot of fun with a few more miles on it.

Uliana Shiryaeva won the Senior Women's event with another technically proficient performance. If she's eligible to compete at Canadian nats, I can see her finishing in the top 5, possibly fighting for a podium spot should she be able to grow her PCS scores over the course of the season. Aleksa Rakic took top spot in Senior Men with a strong FP that included a very nice 4T, a decent 3A-2toe combination and a 3loop - 3loop combination. He has elected to re-use last season's FP. Wesley Chiu continued to have some jump challenges skating his FP to (IMHO) a somewhat incoherent selection of music that included a section set to "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Jac Ross. But, it's only June, plenty of time for him to get everything sorted out before the regular season begins.

Nice to see Kim DeGuise Léveillée back in senior women.

I was so happy to see her name there. She shared on her instagram story last year that she wanted to compete again but was recovering from surgery (I think hip surgery?) I notice that she has shared a lot of stories supporting Deanna Stellato who seems to be a huge inspiration for her. It would be great to see her have a successful return to competition. As I recall she didn't even qualify for challenge the last year she competed. It's hard to believe she has never competed internationally as a senior (she was supposed to in fall of 2015 but was injured). I admire her determination and have enjoyed her skating for many years.

I see that Skate Ontario has this page (and the one for the NextGen event) set up to produce live (unofficial) results and the officials are already named with the start orders/warm-up groups - it will be interesting to see if it works

A follow-up to say that apparently Skate Ontario is testing a new system at this event which should make the live scoring available to those with smart phones/tablets in the arena during the competition. This will be the first time using it, as I understand it.
