Shunsuke Nakamura is back in form: 3A, 3F+3T, 3Lz bit wild/hung on - after a subpar JGP in Osaka he’s looking to challenge Daniel Martynov (who also has a good 3A) here.

Mid-skate ad for The Epoch Times with a lot of blather about how the insurrection wasn't an insurrection. Lovely.

Oscar Oliver improved his SP score by a few points from last week's JGP debut in Gdansk - Jolanta Baryla is with him this week (his Mariposa/Barrie coach was with him in Gdansk). Glad to hear he is being recognized for his charity work. :)

Nakamura and Martynov are both bringing it in the SP! If they both skate well in the FS as well, it will make up for the small and relatively unimpressive field in this event. I enjoyed Fegan as well; he has a good foundation for the future.

Fegan

opens with solid 3s, hand down on 3z, nice attention to the music, needs to add speed and power as he grows, wonderful MITF sequence with stretched out and held spiral, saves his combos for second half, wobbly 3z-2t, okay 3r-2a-2r. Last couple jumps were the most solid. Nice debut.

Kuperman

back to back POTO

opens with solid 3f-3t, expressive through the "Music of the Night" sequence, little struggle on 3z-1r-3s, down on 3f, does a little leap out of his combo spin. Impressive focus to skate so well considering what is happening back at home

Nakamura

good opening quad 4t, skating with conviction, 3z -1r (really looked like a step out, pause)-2s, pops his axel, nice 3r-3t, good basics. Somewhat hot and cold, but clearly enough to lead.

Kulish

Solid 3a-3t to open, good emotional expression, jumps are on and easy-looking, very nice 3r-2a-2a sequence, could work on his extension to give movement more of a wow factor, but movement was very neat and clean and well-executed! Having some problems with his spins, last one was turning slowly and only level 2. I liked best so far.

Felt like Kulish's program had more of a program in it, if that makes sense... Martynov's skating feels a bit emptier, or maybe it's the fact he's a bit slower. (Both were pretty empty, though.) But it doesn't matter because I think that was enough for the gold.
