AND the Sr Ladies events are being shown live on Russia 1 old-fashioned television for those with the Russia Pack subscription on Comcast-Xfinity cable in the US (3229 in the Wash,DC area). 😉

Cox also has the Russia-channels option here in DC and perhaps other cable services do too...

November 7th is a holiday, a former "Revolution Day" in the days of USSR, but it is still celebrated without the "revolution" part and now they have a military parade on Red Square, it last for hours and is shown on TV (Russian Channel #1). So the skating event had to start on the 8th.

From following skaters' instagrams, Russia seems to have a lot of holidays, I was just thinking about that. Maybe it's a variation on the Baader-Meinhof effect, but in this case it's that they are more noticeable to me because they are something new so they catch my eye.

Didn’t they just have a few days ago - Nov 4 (Unity Day)? All of the regular programming was replaced by old movies. My husband says that Unity Day is the replacement for Revolution Day...hence, all of the changed programming last Wednesday.

The above list of Russian holidays mentions only Nov 4 (Unity Day), not Nov 7. Maybe some local areas still celeb Nov 7?

The important thing is that we know when to wake up early to watch our skating.

Official national holiday and a day off was on Nov,4th (Unity day).

The military parade was also indeed scheduled for Nov,7th as a symbolic repetition of the one from 1941 that also took place on the Res Square. But it was cancelled due to C19 and postponed to 2021

Both occasions have nothing to do with the schedule of the Kazan event. Russian cup events always had weird schedules and comps on weekdays previously, they did some adjustments this year because of TV broadcasting and the increasing role of RC series, but there’s nothing surprising in this schedule.

Btw, Channel 1 did an interview with Trusova and Kostornaia. Aliona said she has her 3Axel back, will do it in the free program.

I get an error message 404 when I click the result page. Anyone have a working link? Or is it just not up yet because the competiton hasn’t started? Thank you! 😊

Rumor says Yanovskaya/Lukasc will also compete here (outside of competition). Their first event in a year and a half (?) and after her injury

I can't watch (much) live today (nor the entire week) :drama:

I hope Stasia kicks arse and shows, the Rostelecom spot should have been hers.

There is also a new junior pair from Perm - Kargulina/Kalashnikov.
Kalashnikov used to skate with Schelgova and they were good enough to be sent to two JGP events and scored 149 and 150. Kargulina skated with Porokhov and they were not that great last season (scores between 129-139), although the season before they did manage to score once 150. So both Kargulina and Kalashnikov are experienced pair skaters. Usually Perm sends their pairs to competition when they are already pretty decent, so let’s see how this new pair will do.

Is this on Channel 1? I ask because it helps to narrow down the search with the voice remote to watch on the big TV.

NM I found it, but the feed is bad on the YouTube stream. You may need a VPN and watch on the Russian stream. It's glitchy, but the YT is not good.
