Reading the headlines one would think Stellate's biggest achievement is being 40, not being a world champion. Oh, and Dechamps who?

The story is what the judges marked. The judges are an extension of the audience, rightly or wrongly, and love a good story as much as anyone else.

I’m encouraged by the standard of pairs and think the podium could look completely different by next year and definitely by Milano-Cortina.

I was going to skip the pairs free and I’m so glad I went. The overall level of the field was way, way better than I expected. Plus seeing Stellato make history in person was:cheer2::cheer::love:

I hope I have a body like Deanna when I get to be 40.
You can wish, but she went to the gym every day and did pilates through all the years she was off, she then spent hours working on recovery (roller, massage gun, and cupping) after training many hours a day and weighs all her food to make sure she eats the right combination of protein, carbs and fiber.

Humongous dedication there.

Seeing it live the Canadians were first in both programs on my scorecard. They skate and perform much more as a mature pair. Beautiful line and positions…lift positions from Deanna GORGEOUS! The Japanese do not relate to each other or perform the choreography as a pair. They are fast and energetic, but I notice he hauls her around the ice with a lot of pushing and pulling and the handling is a bit rough. I preferred the Germans even to the Japanese. But to each his own 🤷‍♀️

Last year's victory of the Japanese is also a home medal :shuffle:

Yeah, what goes around comes around. They were robbed this year, but they were gifted last year so I guess it all evens out.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Hase and Volodin and the Hungarians go 1-2 next year. Even by the time of the GP, I think H&V will be the team to beat.

Not without better material. Both HaseVol and PavSvia have dreadful, snoozy Savin programs. They should be the ones hiring Lori Nichol.

Agree. I was there live too.

The Japanese team clearly lost the SP to the Canadians and while I would have given them a couple of more marks for skating skills in the long program, it’s not enough to make up for the superior choreography and program of the Canadians.

The Germans (H/V) are the ones to watch in the next couple of years leading up to Milan.

Agree. The Canadians have a much more intricate program than the Japanese. This is probably why the speed of the Japanese is faster. The right team got the gold medal yesterday, and I’m happy with how well the Japanese team skated. They did a great job!

I don't understand the people who think they should have disclosed details about the medical situation during the event, or that Miura should have done the medal ceremony alone. His medical situation is only our business as far as he allows it to be. And in a medical emergency, the concern is the patient. Not the entitled audience members. Miura was probably more concerned about the health of her partner than the medal ceremony. (I'm reading things online, not necessarily here)

I’m sure he wanted a friend to stay with him.

If I was her, I wouldn’t have left him either. She would be a huge help in that situation.

That’s what partners do, right?

Is there a world where they can completely devalue a triple jump/ double axel/Double axel? They’re always 17 miles apart from each other. They’re never synchronized and they’re always a disaster to look at. It’s kind of the elephant in the room for pairs figure skating it’s just horrible.

This is Canada's thirteenth gold in pairs, from eight different teams:

Dafoe/Bowden (1954-1955)
Wagner/Paul (1957-1960)
Jelinek/Jelinek (1962)
Underhill/Martini (1984)
Brasseur/Eisler (1993)
Sale/Pelletier (2001)
Duhamel/Radford (2015-2016)
Stellato-Dudek/Deschamps (2024)

What??

It’s been eight years since Eric and Megan? For real?

You can have a body like that even at 40. I had a body like that up until I worked at 911. From 2005 through 2010, I gained a lot of weight, however. I weighed 162 lbs. After I quit that job, I started working at a casino that involved a lot of walking and other things. In three months after working there, I was back down to 129 lbs. I took vitamins, worked out on my rowing machine and lifted my dumbbells. I was 52 years old, and when I acquired NF in April of 2011, I was very healthy. My doctors told me that was one of the reasons I may have survived that disease.

Congratulations to Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps! I am so happy for them! What other awesome things can I say that hasn't already been said. Kudos to them, and they deserved the Gold!!!

By the way, today is my 13th anniversary of surviving that disease.

Molto bene!!! Congratulazioni. Ti piace andare in Italia?

Mi ha piaciuto molto due anni fa, voglio viaggiare di nuovo lí!

I don’t think I congratulated Hase & Volodin on their bronze but very happy for them after the Euros free. Would not be surprised to see them on top next season.

I know ConMac must be disappointed but the mistakes didn’t degrade too much from the performance at least for me. Definitely bummed Italy missed on 3 spots but fingers crossed next season.

Take that, Aljona Savchenko. Good for you, Deanna! (I would have been happy with either them or the Japanese winning--I love Miura/Kihara. Their skating skills are top notch. They've got that particular glide and knee action that so many Japanese skaters have.)

I finally got to watch the last 4 teams. Deanna and Maxime had a performance that kind of transcended the event and you couldn't help but get sucked into the emotion of it.

Loved Hase and Volodin. They have so many great qualities and I loved the choreography. And her jump technique in the air is fantastic.
