It's because a lot of the hyping of them is over the top and doesn't match the skating. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Sorry, but most of the "hyping" was in people's minds. Like everyone proclaiming that they would (undeservedly) medal at Worlds and bashing them for this even though no one on their team ever said anything like that.

I was thinking mainly of the GOEs, not the audience chatter.

Oh wow, the combination lift from the Finns not getting the usual love from the judges. I wonder if this is telling of the fractions of points they're going to lose out on in each element compared to their previous scores form the judges.

Same thing happening to the twizzles and straightline lift.

Meh…I missed most of the Free Dance. Liking these two. I’m out of the loop, is this the same Julia who used to be a single skater?

Here for the ombre costumes as well, they look lovely 😍

Yes, well that was basically one poster pushing for World bronze.

But it all really started with a senior international that was criminally overscored on all accounts, and many people fixated just on the scores of D/S while ignoring the massive inflation of the skaters below them as well. I remember I posted somewhere before the Olympics something to the extent of ‘all this agony for a potential 12th or 13th place finish?’

I just don’t find them nearly as bad as some continuously think they are 🤷🏼‍♂️ but I also don’t think they are pushing for top in the world. With the North American teams competing at Worlds, D/S might not even really move up from their Olympics placement two years ago.

Beautiful. The flow in the lift positions was extraordinary, and she just floated from beginning to end as he placed he moved her around, and placed her down. The level of skating in this competition is really high going into the final flight.

115.72 = 2nd Place
192.08 = 2nd Place

I don't think that was it, or at least the only thing. Skaters sometimes need only one high score for that score/range to "stick", while it doesn't for the rest of the pack. I think the fear was that the judges would continue to place them in a pack in which they were pretenders.

I agree with all of this. I get it to some extent. "Everyone" hates Eteri and thinks she should be coaching. But Diane is just half the team, they aren't coached by Eteri and now they don't even skate for Russia. But whenever they compete, it's like people lose their minds and spend the entire flight bringing them into every skate just to bash them. It gets old. Really, really old.

I still don't love this program. I mean the skating is good, but nothing about this program really pulls me in.
Like the team, already forgot the program. 🤷

The Finns were beautiful today.
Lovely program.

I am not sure how I'd fare them against Dem/lM but I loved both couple.
