I see Jacob Sanchez isn't competing. I assume this is because he'll be going to the Youth Olympic Games, which clashes with nationals?

Maxim Zharkov is also missing from senior men :(

Maxim Zharkov reps Dallas FSC, so Midwesterns is his Sectional.
🤦‍♀️ of course, thank you :)

I also just noticed that Julia Lautowa's daughter Skylar, who I believe had the highest novice score this summer (or at least top 2) is missing :(

Lindsay Thorngren is also missing from the senior women, so I'm guessing she was given a bye due to SCI last week...

Oh dear, Kirk took a hard fall on footwork! But he's up and at 'em again. Also had a fall on a jump. For once in his life he looks a bit tired afterward. :)

ETA: 57.05, into 3rd.

'Happy' Kirk is fearless! :D He landed his Rippon3Lz but fell on 3A that he's been trying this season but not landed in comp. yet and then landed 3F+3T(q?); footwork tumble was near the end and his facial expression at the finish was .
57.05 in 3rd.

Confident 2A & 3Lz to start for 'Sasha' Fegan in his Bolero SP ... uh-oh only 3T+1Lo fell out. 55.58 in 4th.
His younger brother Filip will compete in Juvenile Boys FS after this event.

Zachary LoPinto skated to "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" - jumps: 2F+3T, 2A, down on 3Lz. 55.04 into 5th place.
Top 4 after tomorrow's FS will qualify for Nationals.

SP protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/30615/SEGM005.html

ETA top 5:

Kazanecki - all jumps landed cleanly; 2 L4 spins
Sedlis - 3T+3T, 3Lz fall, 2A & all level 4 spins & footwork!
Haugeto's 3A was downgraded (<<) and his 3F+3T was called clean (4 of the 6 judges gave him - GOE); all level 4 spins & footwork (despite the fall).
Fegan - 3T+2Lo<< (-1.79 GOE); I missed seeing his fall in the step sequence - no wonder he looked so worried in the kiss & cry.
LoPinto - 2F+3T, 2A, 3Lz< fall; all level 4 spins & footwork.

Watched the Peacock replay. Kirk Haugeto always has me in stitches. Looking better and more controlled on some things and then he tries to sell it too hard, especially footwork and loses balance and falls. His coaches have their hands full with him I’m sure. I sure hope he keeps skating because audiences will love him.

Lots to like in the junior men!

For Juvenile-Novice skaters, how many make the cut for the developmental team that gets to attend nationals and the camp?
Heartbreaking seeing some of these Juv boys so disappointed with the possibility of not making it :wuzrobbed

Top 4 in each level for singles skaters.

Top 6 Juvenile Boys from the Eastern section in the NQS standings:
1 E-1 NE-1 Benjamin Schmidt 54.45 [44.89 today]
3 E-2 SA-1 Franco Aparicio 50.70
5 E-3 NA-1 Filip Fegan 49.42
9 E-4 SA-2 Aiden Lan 47.73 [40.18 today]
12 E-5 SA-3 Sean Kay 45.96
14 E-6 SA-4 Noah Ryu 45.29 [46.75 today]

Schmidt, currently in 3rd, scored almost 10 points lower due to his 2 falls so that's probably why he immediately started crying upon hearing his score. :(

“Happy Kirk” was not so happy in K&C…the face of his main coach said it all! Wishing for a happier free skate tomorrow at 4:10pm. He skates next-to-last.

Halfway though the Juvenile Boys FS: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/30615/CAT006SEG006.html

3 E-2 SA-1 Franco Aparicio 50.70 - will skate 4th in the 4th & final group
5 E-3 NA-1 Filip Fegan 49.42 --> 50.13 today and he celebrated BIG time with his coach Roman Serov in the kiss & cry :)
...
12 E-5 SA-3 Sean Kay 45.96 --> 43.44 today and he looked disappointed with his announced score in the k&c after a VERY extroverted performance to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now"

It was good to see Aren Nielsen again (coaching Atlanta FSC skaters) ... checked his age and he looks good at 55!

From 23 Juvenile men to only 8 Junior men is a rather sad statistical drop. :(

I thought Sean Kay’s performance was quite good and thought he should have scored higher. He really skated up to the music. I was very entertained!

Grace is 9 years old, according to her proud coaches' post with 4 photos from yesterday: https://www.instagram.com/p/CzJdaB2rT3Z/

I think Franco Aparicio had the best "delighted surprise" reaction in the kiss & cry with his coaches today :): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRAbNifFXUg&t=8802s (I recognized the woman on the right as Sofia Bezkorovainaya's coach; Sofia will compete in the Junior Women's SP on Saturday morning.)
Close runner-up, IMO, is Filip Fegan & his coach Roman Serov: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRAbNifFXUg&t=3875s

Juvenile Boys FS protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/30615/SEGM006.html

SILVER Filip Fegan, SC of New York 50.13 (younger brother of 'Sasha' Fegan)
BRONZE Noah Ryu, Washington FSC 46.75 (coached by Viktor Pfeifer & Irina Romanova)
PEWTER Yixi Lin, Elite Edge SC 45.90

Novice Men SP results/link to protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/30615/CAT004SEG004.html
Top 2 are Caleb Farrington 48.46, coached by Viktor Pfeifer & Irina Romanova, and Alek Tankovic 47.10, coached by Aren Nielsen.

Intermediate Men SP results/link to protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/30615/CAT003SEG003.html

Intermediate Women SP results/link to protocols:
https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2023/30615/CAT002SEG002.html

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the juvenile boys more than the novice men. Lots of fun, clever programs to upbeat music, well-delivered. In novice, Caleb Farrington was quite good and fun to watch with his triple lutz and engaging performance. He’s got a good coaching team with Viktor Pfeiffer.
