I'm a little worried about K/Ialin's (apparent lack of) height difference now that she's grown so much - how tall is he? Talk me down!

He is 1.74. Not very tall for a pair skater. Though the height is not everything. Sviatchenko got a new partner and there is not that huge size difference and they are doing just fine. I think the fact that Kostiukovich suddenly doesn’t land triples will hurt them much more than the fact that she is taller than she was before.

I am finally back home and the first thing I rewatch is Nugu's RC I.
What does this say about me?
I feared after SP placement, ranked 3rd now, well, at least there is hope she could make it.
It's a carrot party deluxe, but the SP is so charming and guilty-pleasure-material (@alchemy void might totally fall for it :D)
Come on Nugu, you can make it to nationals! Slay.

Btw, who is Tsibinova?
Never heard of. Not impressed.

Post-its for the win.

Nugu is stunning! Love the SP and the costume. The LP is still great. Will she get an international assignment ever again?

In summary: I don't see carrots; only charisma. :drama:

Sima. The SP is stunning. The LP has potential, but empty. Great costumes. She could have won this until the :gallopin1 ending.

Talalaikina is morphing into Perkova! Skating, looks, facial expressions, lack of teknik, even using one of her old programs. :cheer: The LP costuming is sooooo WTF. Of course, I'm here for all of it. #perkovaslegacymatters

Tsibinova. Zzzzzzzz.

Not quite sure what to think about Akatieva’s FS. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i3lOKEZZjkc
Don’t get me wrong, I think it is a huge achievement if someone at her age is landing quad toe and triple axel, but it didn’t quite work in the competition yet and it looked quite messy. Just wondering why would Tutberidze agree to put there jumps that are not quite ready. Just to send there a message that a girl who will be junior eligible only in two years time can do it? Fall on 3A in the SP, fall on quad toe in the FS, landed 3A with a huge step out which also lost her points because it was supposed to be a combination, and then another 3A that had a bit messy hard landing but at least it was landed.

She fell on the quad but landed two 3A at her last event, so she’s already done it in competition.

Yes, but how the program looked with all those messy attempts? She can be happy that she has done it in a competition, but the score speaks volume. There is a reason why with a quad and two triple axels she scored so relatively low (under 190), whereas many junior girls can easily score over 190 without the quad and triple axels. I mean, she is still first, but that’s because the field wasn’t particularly strong at this event. Last year’s Russian cup junior ladies scored better than at this event. (E.g. last year at the first event she would be 4th with this score).

The program where she landed the two 3A was fine, actually. The second 3A was particularly good; both were landed cleanly and one in combo . Clearly it’s consistent enough to put it in for now (though putting it in the SP is dumb, IMO). It’s a high risk/high reward strategy.

Did you watch the same program? Quad toe loop with fall, triple axel with a huge step out and another triple axel with a jarring heavy landing? I wouldn’t call either of the axels landed cleanly. It was counted, but it definitely wasn’t pretty. The first one was a lot worse, but even the second one she clearly fought for the landing.

ETA: I just checked the protocol. In the first triple axel she lost points for the combination, got negative GOE, so the value of the combination that contains triple axel was only 4.16 (she would get more with any clean triple-double combination). The second triple axel was underrotated, negative GOE but still got 5.50 points.

I’m talking about her last competition (Moscow championships, I think) where she fell on the 4T but did land both 3A cleanly. Maybe take out the 4T for now but the 3A has at least been landed cleanly twice in one program already. I think that not including it after landing it twice is taking a step back.

Her last competition was today, the first stage Cup of Russia. Today FS, yesterday SP.

Her last competition was today, the first stage Cup of Russia.
And two weeks ago she had another competition where she did land both her 3A. So why take them out if she’s already done it successfully two weeks ago?

I see. I was confused when you wrote in her last competition...

ETA: just watched it. Thank you for the link. The program definitely looks so much better, with just one mistake on the quad toe loop. Perhaps it wasn’t just her day today. The axels were very good!

I absolutely loved Sobinina/Volodin, especially considering that they are a brand new team and she has only recently switched to pairs.
Hope they get a Challenger event and qualify to Junior Worlds this season.

And that first lift in the free is just :kickass:

I really have a thing for Kudriavtseva/Spiridonov
They have a beautiful look on the ice, some nice flow, good elememts (well, not this :gallopin1 weekend obviously)

Pleasse give them a challenger at least.
I was happy to support them about a year ago, but her constant troubles with triple throws put me off. It is not good for my nerves to be a fan of this pair. I am quite understanding when someone has problems with side by side jumps, some skaters do struggle with triples, but the majority of Russian pairs do not struggle with throws. Kudriavtseva used to have solid triple throws with her previous two partners, so not sure what the problem is, but my patience has run out. A Senior pair should not keep popping throws. At least this time she went for triples, even though she fell. That’s the spirit!

I loved them too. And I also liked Sviatchenko with his new partner. Considering the short length of time they skate together and that she was singles skater, I thought that was a pretty good result.

I had the same problem until I opened it on the computer. Must be some tech mistake.
