I am older than Deanna 😭 Though I did appreciate that Zoe Jones skated for as long as she did because she was the last competitive skater that was older than me.

Zoe Jones is a total role model for all skaters. She retired from elite skating, kept competing in adult events, and then went back to elite skating. So inspiring (and also a very nice person).

As usual, I found Mark Hanretty adorable to listen to. I like Tonia Kwiatkowski paired up with him, as I always found her to be great for just knowing what skaters are doing. I only caught the last 1/3, but fun. Glad it was a pretty clean skate!

Late with my reactions because hubby was here watching the final 3 couples with me. But, WOOOOWWWW!!!! I'm over the moon for Deanna and Max!! :encore: :encore: :encore: They simply could NOT have skated that any better! Their reactions, along with those of their coaches and the AUDIENCE at the end was phenomenal. A moment they will NEVER forget.

Riku and Ryuichi were WAY better than I was expecting, given his prolonged back injury this season. Their SPEED was even blasting through the computer screen (and it's often hard to tell the difference in speed when you're not seeing it live). They were very happy with their marks too and well they should be. :cheer2::cheer2:

And, Sara and Niccolo also were awesome .... and, also, elated with their score. What a DIFFICULT spot for them to draw in the skating order. Good for them to hold it all together and skate so well.

WHAT A FABULOUS START TO WORLDS this pairs SP has been.

What a glorious pairs event! To see so many clean skates and honestly, every pair can be proud of what they did even with a few mistakes here and there. I loved them all. So very happy for Deanna and Max, the pressure must have been enormous. Chan and Howe can be celebrated for their comeback, not perfect but so nice to see them back. I was also proud of K/O and P/F, despite a mistake both teams were beautiful. One of my faves P/M, from Canada also had a gorgeous skate today and I am looking forward to their FS.

The Japanese program should be way behind the Italians and Germans in composition. But their undeniable skating skills keep them up there.

I want H/V to medal because they’re the most elegant skaters out there but I’m done with any arrangement of the top four.

From the protocols you would get the idea that Deanna and Max's program was all technique and minimal interpretation/performance. Not at all. They deserved higher PCS.

Due to work schedule, I’ll be watching most of this tonight, after the Women SPs. Very happy with the results…and hope that S-D/D can hang on to 1st. I’d love to see H/V pull up to a medal. Saddened by the Chinese being only 15th…must have fallen or flubbed in some other way.

Happy for Stellato but disappointed to see the judges trying to give them a win on the short program alone. Unpopular opinion: I’d have had Conti and Macii first :shuffle: and the top five within a point or two of each other.
I think SDDes score was as excessively high this year as MiuKih's SP score last year was. I don't know that I'd have ConMac in 1st but I'd have had them closer to SDDes and 2nd overall.

Think the judges are signing that the gold stays in Canada,Japan takes the silver, the bronze is for grabbing and Hungary has no chance even if all the teams above skate like Zambonies. I tend to almost agree - would give Japan a chance for gold and kick Georgia out of the medal contenders.

PCS tells me that Georgia has no chance at a medal if the others are clean. They need help from at least two teams ahead of them.

I don't know what's worse, MiuKih skating to Switchfoot or that it's the String Quartet version of Switchfoot.
Didn’t a Canadian pair skate to instrumental Switchfoot several years ago—maybe Kirkland/Radford?

Quite honestly I have no idea. I don't remember Kirkland/Radford being a team. If they were in the mid-2000's I kind of wasn't paying a lot of attention outside of ice dance and the top women/Joannie Rochette for at least one Olympic cycle.
