And Easterns start orders are now posted. Lindsay Thorngren is listed in Senior Women, but I'm pretty sure she has a bye due to finishing in the top 5 last year, plus 3 int'ls this fall. So I don't believe she will count in the qualifying, i.e., the top 2 not named Thorngren still automatically qualify?

That is my understanding as well. Probably not the worst idea for her to compete here and hopefully regain some of her consistency that was gone during the month of October.

Midwestern Sectionals starts tomorrow morning, bright and early. I'm not going to list the starting orders for Juvenile or Intermediate singles & pairs or Novice pairs, but I will list out the starting orders for all of the Novice singles and Junior & Senior singles and pairs.

A quick primer on who qualifies for Nationals:
Senior Men - Top 2 from each Sectional; additionally the next 4 highest scores from skaters who finished 3rd or lower at all Sectionals will advance.

Senior Women - Top 2 from each Sectionals; additionally the next next 2 highest scores from skaters who finished 3rd or lower at all Sectionals will advance. (Exclusive of Thorngren's placement at Easterns as she has a bye due to her 5th place finish at 2022 Nationals).

Senior Pairs - All teams competing SHOULD advance to Nationals, provided they achieve the minimum SP & FS TES scores (Fitzpatrick/Bearinger need the FS, Lockley/Caputo need both.

Senior Dance - Top 5 teams advance to Nationals.

Junior Singles - Top 4 JUNIORS from each Sectional and the Top 2 NOVICES from each Sectional (exclusive of Yampolsky's placement as he has a bye due to qualifying for the JGPF).

Junior Pairs & Dance - All teams competing in both disciplines advance to Nationals as neither of the Finals fields exceed the number of spots at Nationals.

Yes! Welcome back. @AngieNikodinovLove were just commenting yesterday how we noticed you weren't around.

I had to do a double take when I saw Lilah Gibson...thinking there was some new sekret baby of Fear/Gibson :)

Clean program from Martynov with 3A! Klein and Zharkov both fell on their 3A attempts, and Zharkov did a 2+3 combo. I wasn't paying attention during Nielsen and missed Freiss.

I think this is the first time I've seen Nathan Chapple. Can someone get him to consider pairs? He looks on the taller side and seems to have the right body type to be successful. And he's kinda hot. He doesn't have the jumps to make it as a singles skater, but we need him on our screens more in the future.

Chapple moved to Chicago to train earlier this year and has improved a LOT - from the U.S. Men's news thread in GSD back after the Glacier Falls NQS comp. in early August:
Nathan Chapple 194.07 - SP to "Unholy War" by Jacob Banks; landed 5 triples in his FS to win the [Glacier Falls NQS] bronze! Rohene Ward has been working with him - his post/video from May 2022: https://www.instagram.com/p/CdgUUuHJ-lo/
Chapple's GF total score ranked him 5th in the NQS standings.

Mids Senior Men SP protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2022/32047/SEGM006.html
1 Daniel Martynov, Great Lakes FSC 77.59 (hope he can skate like this in his senior international debut coming up in Warsaw!)
2 Joseph Klein, Skokie Valley SC 73.74 (glad to see him attempt 3A in his SP today even though it was called <)
3 Matthew Nielsen, Winterhurst FSC 70.98 (has landed 3A in practice)
4 Mitchell Friess, St. Paul FSC 69.14
5 Nathan Chapple, Winterhurst FSC 66.87
6 Maxim Zharkov, Dallas FSC 60.58
7 Ian Kang, Rocky Mountain FSC 50.19

Well, now that Tim LeDuc is in Chicago... Yeah, I'm fully onboard the "get him into pairs" train, lol. He is quite good, but I'm entirely positive that 5 triples won't get him far with the crop of juniors we've got coming up in the next few seasons.

I just caught up on the Intermediate Pairs FS. I'm really impressed with Grohne/McPike, who won the event. WASA is doing some good things with their pairs program. I was also pleasantly surprised at Finkelstein/Williams, who are from my neck of the woods! Chris Knierim was in KnC and at the boards, along with their main coach, Mari Malama. They have a really beautiful look together - her posture and carriage is wonderful. They didn't try any overhead lifts or a death spiral (just a pivot figure), but there's a solid foundation there with more pairs training. Also notable was the 3rd place team of Tanner/Herbert - they did a couple of overhead lifts, but just a bit less refined and messier overall than FinWill. Krasnopeeva/Apter, who were 4th also didn't attempt any overhead lifts, but they have a cute brother-sister vibe - she's a firecracker, but he didn't let her presence overpower them.

Who's up for some junior pairs pbp?! Catching up since I decided to pay attention and rewound the feed to re-watch the first team.

Rivers/Rensing - "Le Jazz Hot" sung by Julie Andrews - double twist, SBS 2a, lift fail, throw double, need major work on their SBS spins - slow and out of synch in multiple positions. Overall, I'm meh about this team. They barely demonstrated any connection to the music and their elements were tolerable.

Williams/Lewer - "Tiny Dancer" cover - gorgeous twist (I think it was a triple)! Throw double, nice one-handed lift - he's very comfortable on the ice. SBS 2As - she was a bit tilted on the landing but held on. SBS spins - interesting - not bad at all. Honestly, having seem him with is former partner (Campbell Young) at a handful of international comps last season, I wouldn't have expected this and... Wow. Like I said about Intermediate Pairs - there's something good going on at WASA with their new pairs program. I really hope the USFS plans on sending them to Bavarian Open right after Nationals to get their Jr Worlds TES mins because I don't think it's a certainty that Smith/Deng beat them at Jr Nats.

Korytek/Chapman - "Mambo Italiano" - another beautiful twist! SBS 2As - very nice. Throw double. Best SBS spins of this first group. It's a real shame they aren't age-eligible for juniors or seniors. Another solid lift - she had her leg around his neck on the exit - really cool. I think I like them better than Baram/Tioumentsev, out of the up-and-coming Great Parks pairs teams.

Thanks for the Intermediate Pairs FS recap, @Karen-W - results/link to protocols: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2022/32047/CAT003SEG026.html
Replay video: https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/watch/?Archive=3061

Natalia Mishkutenok is with the four WASA pairs in Michigan (Drew Meekins is with Kam/O'Shea for their senior international debut in Graz later this week).

Mark Williams is a very strong singles skater (placed 5th in the Mids Novice Men SP yesterday) and I'm glad he has started pairs this season (Marissa Castelli, who recently moved to the Portland, OR area with her doctor husband, has helped him & Clara a bit - she congratulated them in her latest Instagram story :)).

There was a local Omaha news story last month on Camille Kane, 13, and Thomas McClure, 16, who finished 6th in today's Intermediate Pairs event:

I'm going to make one post for each group of the Jr Pairs.

Church/Church - the first of two sibling duos today, lol. Something classical or movie soundtrack? Decent twist, SBS 2Lo. Not terrible on the lift - his blades were a bit scratchy, but I wasn't scared while she was in the air. Sketchy landing on the throw double - hand down I think. They are nice, but nothing dynamic - and the lack of a height difference will probably end this partnership sooner rather than later, even if they are brother and sister.

Flores/Wang - Another new WASA team (her older sister, Isabella, is competing in the Senior Dance Final this week). Double twist was okay, throw was a double. Near dead stop on the lift over the ice - that was a bit iffy. Nice SBS 2As! They're pretty slow. Probably the least impressive of the WASA pairs I've seen so far today.

Black/Black - our second sibling duo of the day! Another team with not much height differential, lol. Weak twist, but their lift was solid. Throw double looked like work for him. Oh, nice SBS spins synch until nearly the end! And good speed on them too. Fall on their SBS jumps from him. I actually think they both have potential but need different partners. They're too similar in build - he seems small for a pairs guy but could do well with a smaller, slighter partner; she doesn't strike me as too big for pairs, just too big for him and she needs a with a bigger guy to help get air on the twist and throw.
