Only caught the last group live, but I'm watching Michelle Axille from Indonesia, and she's got the tech you'd expect from someone who Mark says trains on public sessions. But she's musical, and she looks SO happy, and it occurs to me that coming to a competition like this might be the only chance she gets in her life to have an entire ice sheet to herself, and she's revelling in that freedom.

Agree on step sequence - ordinary. Her sit positions have a curved back that should be fixed. Really no story here and not much choreo. The jump elements are very strong, but 73 - Is that skate really on the Leona Hendrichx level? I think she`s been overscored here which isn`t good for her.

Midway through Kushida’s step sequence I was wondering “why did she end up so far behind Mao…oh I see, that’s why.”

Shame, performance-wise she was my favourite.

After watching Mao Shimada’s short program, I found it very nice and very good all around, but 73 points was a very high score. She had a hitch on the double axel landing and seemed pretty slow, especially in footwork. Liked the ending Y spin. I feel like the judging panels in the junior Grand Prix are often giving PCS bonus for reputation.
